Cheesecloth Ghost

  • Completed Project: Cheesecloth Ghost Picture #1

Scare the crap out of people on Halloween or anytime!

I first learned how to make these in girl scouts, but it's fun to make them now that I'm older, too! It is so easy a five year old can do it!

p.s. there are many products you can use for your "glue" like flour and water or sugar and water. If you only want to keep your ghost a short while and you want to save money, try this recipe. I don't recommend it if you want to save your ghost a long time, since it could rot or grow mold!

If you do want to keep it forever, and don't mind spending a few dollars, use the Stiffy like I do!

  1. Step 1

Begin by setting up your ghost form. Dig a hole in your foam ball large enough to sit it on top the the bottle. Straighten your wire hanger and slide it through near the bottom of your foam ball, to create two "arms."

  2. Step 2

In the mixing bowl, blend 1 cup of water with one cup of fabric stiffener. (Or whatever flour/sugar glue recipe you are using)

  3. Step 3

Dip one sheet of cheesecloth into the bowl, making sure all bits get covered in mixture. Squeeze out the excess and drape over the ghost form.

  4. Step 4

Repeat step 3 until you have covered your ghost form. You should drape each sheet at different lengths or angles, to get that wispy ghost effect. You can shape the edges as it begins to dry by curling them around paper tubes or candles, too.

  5. Step 5

Once dry, you can decorate with a face or stuff it with strings of lights, then hang it!
