Cabled I Pod Holder

I still have one of the older iPod Minis, so I wanted a holder for it that would make it look cuter! Sorry for blurry pics, I have an old digital camera.

The instructions for the pattern are as follows:

Cast on 16 stiches.

Row 1: P6, K4, P6
Row 2: K6, P4, K6
Row 3: P6, K4, P6
Row 4: K6, P4, K6
Row 5: P6, Cable Knit 4, P6
Row 6: K6, P4, K6

Repeat Rows 1-6 until desired length. I did it 11 times.

The 'how to' steps are how to knit the cabled pattern.

I was trying to finish so I do not have pictures for making the button hole (but I kind of biffed that up anyway).

Cabling happens on row 5. In this picture I have already done P6, and have slid the first 2 knit stitches onto a double pointed needle (you can also use a cable hook for cabling.... or just bend a paperclip!)
Ignoring the 2 stitches on the red needle, knit the next 2 stitches on your regular needles.

Now knit the two stitches on the red needle. It will be a tight!
And you're done! See the nice cable you made? Finish row 5 and P6.

I'm really not happy with how I finished this, but for my first try I guess I can't complain! When I had enough to make a flap, I started to knit or purl (depending on which row I was on) two stitches together to make a decrease. When I was finished and binding off, there were only 6 stitches left on the needle.

Two rows before the end I made a button hole. I experimented on how to do this myself and didn't exactly do it right, so I recommend looking up directions! I just binded off the 4 middle stitches, then on the next row, added those 4 back and continued on.
This was knitted to be one long piece. To make the pouch, I held it right sides together and used the same yarn to make the project to sew up the sides. Then I turned it inside out and it was done!

As you can see on the flap, the sides curl in. As you're making this it will be really curly (you can see that in the cabling instructions). I didn't block this piece because when the flat was closed it held most of the curl down, plus I kind of liked how it looked!

This was pretty popular at work and I've already been commissioned to make a similar one for a cell phone. I'll try to take pictures of making a button hole/tapering the flap/sewing up the sides and make another how-to!
