My friend Kerry was my first inspiration, she's been taking Burlesque lessons and we've been talking about making bustle skirts. My second inspiration was this beautiful website: http://www.lovechildboudoir.com/
with the loveliest bustle skirts and trousers. Now that I've tried out my first skirt, I'm ready to make a second with Kerry and head to BM!!

Thanks for sharing the tutorial with us - it is not something I would make for myself, but if ever get the opporutnity to make one for someone else, I will keep this in mind.

Nicely done! You asked how to flatten the ruffle tops for easier sewing since they are so thick? If you've pinned them with all metal pins -- NO plastic balls on the end -- then you can iron the pinned tops flat before sewing it all together. Just be careful not to iron down past the pin-line and onto the ruffles themselves. You can then also sew the ruffles to each other before attaching them to the waistband, and sew 1 or 2 more parallel lines in the seam allowance to completely flatten the tops. All those stitch-lines will go into the waistband and be hidden.

Hi Kristin J,
Thanks for the advice. I think the ironing would definitely work with a fabric like taffeta... or something that's easy to iron down. But I'm not sure about the brocade - that stuff is a lot more heavy duty than I expected. I think sewing in a few more lines on the ruffles themselves (before attaching the waistband) is the key!! Great idea!!

heyy :) I absolutely ADORE this skirt, and was just wondering about the fastening before I attempt it, is it essentially a wrap around skirt? or did you sew it together and is just the waistband wrap around? tyy! :)

Jenn & Blitz -
You're right, it is basically a wrap around skirt + waistband.

That is so cute! I would have to make it longer though so I could wear it out in public. lol..
Oh and by the way, thanks for showing me another clothing site to drool over and not be able to have because of the prices! A girl can dream!
