Please dont give your maids a mattress dress too! eek! <3
So in 2005 I believe my cousin was married. She had all of us wearing the dress I called the Mattress because well obvious reasons! Pics below!.

But obviously I cant wear that dress anywhere else so I decided to do a little Recon on this Bill Levkoff dress.

This was so-so difficult for me just because I'm not the greatest seamstress in the world and the seam ripping took a little bit so thats why it was about an hour to do.

If any of you were wondering it is a Bill Levkoff dress but I beg of you dont make your friends spend money on this mattress dress that your friends can never wear again!

    Step 1

    Step 2

Under this dress was like 2 slips and 2 rows of this hard plasticy fishnet!

I think the circus was still living in it!

anyways! I used a seam ripper to take it out nicely to save it for maybe another project one day or if you dont want it just cut it out and trash it

    Step 3

    Thats the plasticy fishnet bleh!

  • Step 4

That brown sash on the waist was taken off and then I turned the dress inside out and sewed up the holes on the sides that occured.

sorry no pics of that :(

I then hung it up on a hanger and cut it off at the knees.

Folded the bottom the same length all the way around the bottom edge with about a 2 and a half inch allowance because I wasnt sure how it would turn out but it was great!

    Step 6

As you find that great length pin your hem of your dress.

Then turn it inside out and sew! ^_^

    then there you have it!

I didnt have a iron so sorry about the wrinkles but I hope you all still like it. Im super proud of myself the first time I sewed clothes and it looked good!

Super cute good for a nice dinner, Night in a club, Church, it all depends on how you rock it. Enjoy and thanks!

That dress was pretty "mattress" like, lol. The last wedding I was in, the bride let all of us pick out our own style, it just had to be the same color and knee-length. I LOVE it when brides do that!
But great recon on this dress! It looks 100x better now! Happy

What did you do with the rest of the fabric?

And it was a great re-make!

Why do brides do this to their loved ones?! I don't get it!
You did an amazing job redoing that mattress. ^_^

That "plasticy fishnet" is called tulle, honey. I have a dress like this that I want to recon, as well, but it's nowhere near so "matressy," as you so adequately put it. Maybe I should decon it, instead. That would be cool. I'll link you if I do it.
