Bow Necklace

A Kitsch alternative to a bow tie!

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

    Take a piece of ribbon in you desired length.

  2. Step 2

    Cut a second piece of ribbon 1 inch longer than the first

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

    Sew or glue together the end

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

    The bow should now resemble a loop

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

    Finding the centre, fold each edge of the ribbon behind itself towards the centre- this will give you the pretty bow shape.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

    Using your spare hand wrap cotton around the centre of the bow

  7. Step 7

    Repeat this again for the second bow

  8. Step 8

    Step 8

    Place the smaller bow on top and line the centres

  9. Step 9

    Using a thinner ribbon wrap this around both bows covering the cotton

  10. Step 10

    Step 10

    Glue or sew the end

  11. Step 11

    Step 11

    Using a hot needle CAREFULLY make a hole either side

  12. Step 12

    Apply a jump ring and attach to a chain



  13. Step 13

    Step 13

    Decorate as desired!

    Buttons...badges…beads…rhinestones…

I don't exactly get the part of when
Finding the centre, fold each edge of the ribbon behind itself towards the centre- this will give you the pretty bow shape.Help?

Hi Janet,
I think i have made it sound more complicated than it is!
u need to fold the ribbon in half length ways so it creates a pinch in the centre.
The ribbon should be folded outwards and pushed towards itself
One side should have 2 folds and the reverse should have 3.
i hope this hasnt confused you further!

OK, im not using this design for necklaces, but for cards. And maybe when i make bow ties for masks... if i get more plaster bandages for masks :( it soo cute, i wuvs them 9though i HATE hello kitty)

I just made this and it's so cute! One thing it's easier to first wrap the thread around the small bow and then put on top of the large bow that hasn't been wrapped yet and then wrap it.

OOOOhhh thanks for the bow tutorial included in this necklace!! I have tried so many ways before and they end up looking funny. This was super easy!! Thanks :-) I used some hello kitty ribbon to make hair bows :-) Finally!!!
