  • Step 1

well here goes my first how to :)

take a t-shirt/top of a plain colour and lay it out on a table or floor, i did 2 at once, the black one i decided to do a spiral pattern which i will shoe step by step and the red one was a simple concertina pattern rolled up at the end, heres how to do the black one

    Step 2

pinch a spot as close to the centre of the body as u can and begin to twist your finger clockwise - you kind of have to follow it round so i find the floor easier to work this pattern on

    Step 3

    keep twisting.....

    Step 4

this is what you get once its all twisted round.... now here comes the tricky bit

    Step 5

use elastic bands to hold it in position, this can be a little fiddly and the outer bits may need tucking here and there but practice helps

    Step 6

this is both folded, banded and ready to go...as i said the red one is a concertina fold and then i coiled it round at the end

    Step 7

put both in a sink or a bucket, squirt bleach over it, i prefer using the bleach neat but it can be diluted, please remember to wear gloves at this stage, leave to sit but keep an eye on it

    Step 8

you should start to notice the colour change, use this as a guide to how light you want the colour to go, you wont see all of it as the dye coming out just sits on the fabric til you wash it away

    Step 9

once the colour is how you would like, fill the sink with cold water to dilute and de-activate the bleach, you can take the rubber bands off at this point, give a good wring out and rinse again, you will see the dye come out in the water, once it a little clearer you can throw them in the washing machine, on a normal cycle just to make sure all the bleach is gone

and then just admire the final look, a twist will be different every time you do it, depends on how good the bleach is, how neat you use it, how tight the twist is etc, i have about 5 of these and they all look a little different

hope my first how to was ok for everyone, (not too long i hope) please feel free to comment or ask question
