I was looking for a swan to embroider and came across an art deco style movie poster for the movie Black Swan so I am working on embroidering it. Im not that great at embroidery because I just started but so far its pretty good (imo).

I traced the pattern onto the material by taping my material over my computer monitor (works pretty good for me, sort of works like a light box) and tracing it directly with a tracing pen (but anything will work). I used colored markers to fill in to keep me on track when embroidering.

I cant give a time limit, it only took a few minutes to trace, etc but it would depend on how much you embroider in one sitting, I've been working on it for four or five days for an hour at a time....
