handfelted bird in birdcage as a hanger for a on the wall

A year ago, my friend her daughter became her seccond son, for the first one i had made a birthtday craft too. So i had liked to make one for this little fellow.
But i didn't finished the hanger, its a very long project with all differends all ready maked parts.
My friends were teasing with this project all the time, Jet mayby you're finished at his 10th birthday year.LOL

I had seen something like this on etsy years ago, but i don't know from whom. ,
When i saw something like this, i thought i will make a birthday present of it for little Lex.;-D
Please click on the third picture , you can see the whole hanger.;-D
Because it took several months i don't have no longer all the pictures, but i think you will understand it too with less pictures.;-D
And i've not, feel fry to ask me your questions.;-D
I hope you like it and make a version for yourself;-D

Instructions

  1. Step 1 1

draw on carton the shape of a bird you only have to draw the body.

Take a basic colour of the merinowool and with needle felting you make the basic shape of the body.
I've you are happy with it, you can add an other colour of merinowool for making the beak.
I had make it first with the needle felting technic and add the beck part and later on the flower needle part for the tail later on, on the body.

At the end you have something like the pict.

  2. Step 2 2

You have only now the needle felting bird, i like felt when its smoother, so i always felt it by hand with water and soap to put the add parts faster and tighter on the body.
I've they are okay fixed you can trow the bird in the washing machine.
Its so easy to have one.LOL

  3. Step 3 3

Draw the eyes with the pecil on the bird.
and embroider the lines on the bird and do some stiches on the flower tail.
I have added some beads too. You can do the same.

  4. Step 4 4

Do the same on the other side
I like two closed eyes, its so cute, but you can do it differend!;-D

Because the backside was a little boring because the flower was only on the front, i added some stiches at the downside like shadow and feathers.

  5. Step 5 5

    We are making the legs.

from thin iron wire which people uses for plants and flowers measuring 6 pieces of 14 cm/5,5 inches.

  6. Step 6 6

fold each of the 6 wire pieces in two.
lay three to gether, and twist them.
Not to far, the last parts are for the toes,.
twist only a double part to the end, to the same with the other two. You have now a leg with three toes.;;D
Do the same with the other 3 wires.
in the end you have two legs.

  7. Step 7 7

With the awl you make in the bottem of the body of the bird two holes, for the legs.
Glue the legs with the hotgune together.

  8. Step 8 8

    the twig.(size: 35cm/14 inches)
I have found a nice twig in my neighbourhood and let him dried after i had washed and cleaned him.
Then i add some wood glue on the whole twig with a paint bruh , you can add two layers of it on the twig.
    Let it dry.
    You have sealing the twig.

  9. Step 9 9

Paint with acrylic paint the twig, i have used gold. but you can choice an other colour i've you like.;-D
Mayby you must paint an other layer of it, and let it again dry.

  10. Step 10 10

fold and bend the toes of the bird round the bench or twig. Like the picture show you.
My cats thinks he is a toy.LOl They are fighting of who becoming the bird.LOL
But happely after all, Muis has won the battle.LOL
And i own still my bird.;-D

  11. Step 11 11

Measure two aluminium wire thread of 70 cm/27 inches.
    twist them togeteher.

  12. Step 12 12

Lay the bird flat and bend the wire in a cage shape like the picture.
Pay attention you must have a big end to bend on the bench or twi, to fix it.

  13. Step 13 13

Like this. Leaf a big piece over to hide the wire with flowers and leafs.

  14. Step 14 14

Gather all your fake flowers and beads and leafs you have left as scraps
    to with the riboons.
Make a nice , pretty arragement on the "birdcage";-D

  15. Step 15 15

I had some beads that i had made mysel, and fabric flowers,
some of them i have add them together with glue and yarn and a needle. You can do the same, its cheaper this way.;-D
And you're cleaning your old materials up.LOL
Most of you know why i'm telling this.LOL

  16. Step 16 16

First begin with fixing the leafes. Use your thin flower wire;-D twist the wire round the leafs and the birdcase or twig.,
After this, you can make a bow for to hang the birdcage. and add with your gluegun some flowers.

  17. Step 17 17

Pay attention that the birdcage is not full with only flowers and leafs, you must show too that its a cage;-D

  18. Step 18 18

When you have glued the whole thing together , you can finishing the other side.
I'm always make a pretty backside, you don't have to, but mayby they hang it behind the window and its nice to see outside the house he 's lovely.LOL

  19. Step 19 19

Do the same steps with the backside of the bird.
This is what i did, only i added some flowers more on the ones they sit on the frontside.;-D
Glue them too with the hotgun.

  20. Step 20 20

Because it was a gift for a baby (hummm almost a toddler,LOL) i like a to add a ribbon with the name and the birthdate on it.

You can do the same for a other older person. Or write a message on it for the person,;-D
Or a poem;-D So much idea's to make. LOL

choise a pretty colour ribbon and fix it on the ground with tape. Like the picture.

  21. Step 21 21

You can use a marker, but you can use stamps too.
I didn't use them, the inkt wasn't permanent.
so i write the letters by hand with a permanent marker.

  22. Step 22 22

I liked it a lot to add a wooden flower on the ribbon with the writing, so on the end i fold a little pieced on the wrong site, and hang the flower on it, and fixed it with glue.
with a other ribbon i added the riboon on the birdcage.

  23. Step 23 23

    Like this,
Please click on the picture you can see it better.;-D

    then you are finished;-D
I hope you liked it, and of course you can use a bird that you allready had or maked, or bought, be creative, but i love mine, i love felting a lot.;-D
But most importend have fun with the making of.;-D
