A cute and simple hat <3
Inspiration: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/mario-hat
I liked the idea (and Mario), but I wanted it to be different, so, I changed it to be longer in the back to accommodate me.

  • How to make a beret. Beret Like Hat - Step 1
    Step 1

    Gather materials.
Cut one circular piece of fabric.
(One of mine had some stitching in it, ignore it.)

  • How to make a beret. Beret Like Hat - Step 2
    Step 2

Cut another circle, making it slightly bigger than the first. This ensures that the hat will be slouchy.

  • Step 3

    (Sorry, no picture)

Cut a circle out of the middle of the smaller circle. Make sure you can fit your head through it. You might have to adjust it to get the right size.

  • How to make a beret. Beret Like Hat - Step 4
    Step 4

This is sort of hard to describe, but not hard to do.
Align the two big circles together. Pin it if you need to.

  • How to make a beret. Beret Like Hat - Step 5
    Step 5

Sew around the edges of the two big circles.
You can also hem the edges of the smaller circle if you want, for a more refined looking hat.

  • How to make a beret. Beret Like Hat - Step 6
    Step 6

Flip it inside out and voila! A beret like hat. Wear it on the crown of your head like a slouchy beret.

I use bobby pins to keep it in place because I have a small head.

Oh sorry to intrude again - but you mentioned you used bobby pins to keep it you hat/snood-amajig in place. . . you could try a comb if you make another. You can buy combs at craft and fabric stores in different sizes and in metal or plastic. Take the comb, and sew it under at the top and then let the comb hold it in place and no one sees the bobby pins. . .

This looks a lot like a snood. Super cute. I make these with lace fabric and sew pearls on them to wear to faires or temple.
