Repourposed Evening Gown into Belly Dance Costume
I made this for my first belly dance recital. New costumes can cost hundreds of dollars so I opted to make mine.

I bought an evening gown at a thrift store that had beaded applique and sequins. I cut off the applique. I cut some of the sequinned material and covered a bra in it. Then I glued the applique over it. I used (clearance) ribbon under the bust and up the sides and joined the ends in the back of the neck to create a halter style. (I cut off the original bra straps.
For the belt I used a folded strip of the sequinned material and glued applique on it and lined the top and bottom with the ribbon. I sewed snaps on the end for the closure.
Later I added beaded trim to both peices but it is not pictured.
