Cut lightweight fabric into a 1 or 2 inch square. It doesn't have to be perfect because you will be cutting the excess off anyway.

Shape feathers by cutting tips into a more realistic and desirable shape.

Thread your needle with a strong sewing string, then pierce the stem of the feather and sew it to the bottom of the fabric.

Sew around the feather about three times to secure it and finally going back through the stem again.

Continue to add feathers, sewing the same way. Start from the bottom and work your way up so that the top feathers cover the tops of the bottom feathers (hiding your sewing).

After you add the feathers, it's time to add some vintage buttons. Sew the buttons over the feathers (hiding your sewing again) going through the holes three or four times to make sure it's secure.

Next attach the metal chain by sewing it to the back of the fabric.

Finally sew another feather on the back of the fabric to hide all your sewing lines and cover where the chain is sewn.
