old t-shirt dress coverup easy no sew cute
I was really bored, and I remembered my sister was throwing away a bunch of shirts in a bag. So I grabbed two, the main one being interesting and simple, and the second one a darker color. Either way it comes out really cute :) You can alter it a bit to cover your boobs better for those who are busty. And those who have larger rumps like me, this dress actually hugs and covers it :D! Yay stretchy shirts :D!

I'M SORRY FOR THE SUCKY IMAGES! I DID'T TAKE PHOTOS OF THE CONSTRUCTION.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 1
    Step 1

    First pick two t-shirts.
    1. That will be your base shirt. (This one fit me normally, so you wont need to go out to get an extra size bigger :P) I recommend it to be simple and the image to be in the upper part of the shirt.

    2. An opposite shading of color shirt. As an artist I know you want to make the base color 'POP' with the accesories. So if you do black, go with colors that will help it. If you do yellow go with blue as a helper :) Make it work.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 2
    Step 2

    Second step!
    Laying the t-shirt flat.

Cut from collar to the bottom of the armpit of the sleeve.(Both sides should be getting cut.)

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 3
    Step 3

    Third Step!

You should be left with a blouse looking thing. With the back and front separate from each other.

Turn the the shirt on to its tummy.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 4
    Step 4

    Fourth Step!

Were the two green dots are, is the flap side you want to keep. The front. The back flap let it fold were the crease will be lined up with cut of part with the armpits.

Cut ONLY the back flap off in as straight as a line as you can.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 5
    Step 5

    Step five!

Now grab your second shirt. Cut that very end part off. ONLY the very end right now in a straight line.

When you finish cutting it. put it to the side.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 6
    Step 6

    Step 6
Remember keep the second shirt flat on the ground.

Now we want to make the ruffles at the bottom of the dress.

Cut off 2-3in thick of cutting through the bottom of the shirt. Twice.

So once you cut one loop, cut a second loop.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 7
    Step 7

Now you have two loops from your second shirt.

Cut each of them to be one long strip.

You should now have 2 long strips.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 8
    Step 8

Now grap your iron, ironing board, stitch witchery. Now this stuff is a dream and can be found at Wal-mart, JoAnns, or even Hobby Lobby. Stitch Witchery is like a fabric glue that you iron.
REMEMBER: When ironing with stitch witchery, do not let your iron touch the S.W(Stitch Witchery). It will ruin your iron and stink :(.

When using S.W. Put the the S.W. between the two fabrics you want to use. and make sure none of the stuff is poking out. You might really let the iron heat up the fabric to make sure the S.W. melts.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 9
    Step 9

    DON'T CUT!
Now grab your two long strips and place one end slightly on top of the others end. And set the S.W. between them. I recommend putting two strips of the S.W. between them to make sure their bond is strong.
Like the positioning on the image.

When you finish that easy step, you have one big long strip.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 10
    Step 10

Flip your MAIN t-shirt thing inside out.Now slide it over the bigger end of your ironing board. This'll make your next step easy.

Now measure how long around the end of the shirt is.
    Remember it.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 11
    Step 11

Now you have a choice. Sewing? Or Stitch Witchery? I don't normally sew in a straight line so I choose Stitch Witchery.

Now you can choose whether to free hand or use the old need and thread trick. I choose the trick.

Now I strung the needle. Don't let thread disconnect from the spool. Weave the needle through the top portion(with a little space from the top) of the long blue strip. You don't have to be exact about it.

Once you've weaved all the way through. Let the ruffle creation evenly stretch out to be the same length as the circumference of the end of the shirt.
(If you don't want to use the trick, you can hand set were you want everything.)
So you'll have something like this.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 12
    Step 12

Now sense I chose S.W. its going to take longer than sewing. Considering the wrinkles of the ruffles are thick.

I recommend putting down three strips of S.W..

Now the MAIN shirt of the ironing board should have the S.W on the very end. Lay one end of the ruffle contraption down were the thread is weaved through.

Iron it and let it heat up so the S.W. will melt. It might take some time. Be patient. Check to see if the fabric glued, if not, keep heating.

Rotate the MAIN shirt until the ruffle is all around the shirt.

It's best to have the ruffles length to be to much rather than not enough ;D!

Now you should have a flirty skirty bottom to your beach top so far.

    HARDEST PART IS OVER!

NOW it should like a cute apron.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 13
    Step 13

Now grab the sleeve of the MAIN t-shirt that cut off.

Cut the sleeve bottom make the sleeve a square.

Cut the sleeve through the middle as shown in the photo.

These are your pockets. Choose if you want 1 or 2.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 14
    Step 14

Now add a mini version of the ruffles. Sewing or S.W..
    Your choice.

    I S.W.

Now S.W. (or sew) the pockets into place on the dress were you want them to be.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 15
    Step 15

Now cut out one long strip from the bottom of the second shirt again like you did the first time. However, this time you only cut out one loop.

Find the mid point and cut the strip in half.

Now the MAIN shirt flip over to it's belly.

The MAIN shirt should be layed out flat.

Now add each blue end the side of the back part. Using S.W. or sewing.
    I chose S.W.

  • How to make a piece of swimwear. Beach Coverup From 2 Tees - Step 16
    Step 16

Now that strip from the very bottom of the shirt that I asked you to cut off and put to the side earlier? In step 5?

Attach the middle portion of that strip to the neck line of the MAIN t-shirt.

    Using sewing or S.W. :)

(If you didn't save it just cut off another loop from your second t-shirt :) )

  • Step 17

Now try it on, and tie the neck up and the back together :) Your done!
