  1. Step 1

Cut jeans from the leg knee across and cut off hem. Turn inside out to make tube. Machine stitch cut end on one bag closed. Opposite end machine stitch raw edge all around with decorative stitch or zigzag to keep from fraying. Cut other jean leg same way above.

  2. Step 2

Then cut from knee down to hem right down the middle. This gives you two straps one for this bag and one for another later, set aside.

  3. Step 3

Crochet a flap using a favorite stitch or make one up to try. The thicker yarn makes a more dense and firm flap. For this one I alternated picking up the front chain stitch and the next row picking up the back of the stitch. This makes a alternating row or waffle row look (like a field just tilled ready to plant strawberries in them).

  4. Step 4

Edge it with a picot or fan stitch to create a scallop edge on only one side.

  5. Step 5

Add leather by cutting three narrow 1/2 inch by 5 inch long strips. Now cutting a slot on only one side of the leather strip and angle cut the other side of the leather strip. Pull the angle cut up thru the center of one crochet scallop and thru the cut slot in the leather and pull snug. Repeat in alternating scallops.

  6. Step 6

Sew the button in the left over scallops. Take the straps and fold in half again good sides outside. Machine top stitch the length of the strap 4 times equally spaced apart about 1/4 to 1/2 inches apart. Attach by machine or hand stitching to the inside sides of bag.

  7. Step 7

Machine or hand stitch the crochet section flap to top of bag. You can match the yarn to your shoes or your favorite color. Rainy day project or what to do with scraps from scraps.

I like the idea of combining a crocheted flap with re-using the jeans. Thanks for sharing!
