Extra easy Southern food
 <  Image 1 of 2  >

This meal is super easy and there is no rolling or cutting involved.

My husband and I have this for supper once a week. I don't make the gravy from scratch. Our favorite gravy is Pioneer Pepper Gravy which we have found at Walmart and Kroger. I always add cheese to my plate; my favorites are Mexican blend shredded (not the kind with the spices) and Colby jack.

  1. Step 1

Mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut the shortening in with a fork then add the milk. Drop by spoon (you can make a dozen, but I make six big ones) onto a prepared baking sheet (parchment paper is a life saver!). Bake at 450f for 12 to 15 minutes.

Thanks for sharing this - I haven't made biscuits from scratch in forever, but will give your recipe a go after the next time I buy shortening (I usually use butter in everything instead).

I usually do it the other way around - buy Pillbury Grand flaky biscuits and then make the gravy from scratch and I am glad to see I am not the only person that likes to add cheese to their gravy - it is so much better that way.
