This is an amateur tutorial on how to draw your own self portraits. Before i begin, some of the photos i took didn't get saved for some odd reason so im going to explain this as best as i can. This was kinda a spur of the moment tutorial that i thought would be fun. So, like me and many others, i cant draw very well. In fact i terrible at it. So, i figured instead of keeping this awesome secret to myself that i would share it with the less artsy people. This is the most easiest way of doing a self portrait in my opinion anyways. Excuse all my spelling and gamer errors. You can pretty much do this with any picture. It doesn't necessarily have to be a picture of a person. You can do anime, scenery, still life, etc... Estimated drawing time depends on amount of difficulty.

Okay, well first off, you need to have some skills on how to use paint shop, photo shop, or gimp. Because you cant just take a normal photo and expect to draw from it. I thought i have a tutorial for gimp but i only have one for paint shop. Btw... i don't use photo shop. So, if you need to you can click the link copy and past the link and find out how to do this. http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/painshoppro_skechy_image Once you have your sketch created its time to print it out. Hint: When you make your sketch. Make sure the lines are dark enough to trace from.
Okay so you have your printed picture. Its time to take your pencil and color the back of it. Make sure your lines are dark enough to when you trace your image that pencil markings on the back come in contact with your drawing paper. This is one of the pictures i lost. So if you have questions please ask. Anyways, to make sure you have everything filled in, hold it up to the light with the picture facing you. Okay good, move on to the next step.
Okay, this is also another picture that i lost. True up all the sides. Meaning trim away excess paper, but make sure you leave enough paper on the sides to tape your picture to your drawing paper. You don't want the tape to overlap what your drawing. So once you have cut the sides tape the picture to the drawing paper.
Now, instead of using a pencil to trace, use a pen. It works better than a pencil and it darkens the lines so you can see what you have and have not traced already.
Once you have everything traced already, remove the picture from your drawing paper. Be careful that you don't trip your drawing paper when removing the tape. Okay so your picture should consist of faint lines. Take your pencil and star tracing thought lines in darker. Btw... if you photo is pretty busy, meaning it has a lot of small detail try and do the best at tracing it.
Okay, so now everything is traced but your picture still looks pretty dull. Time to add the detail. If you have hair in your picture, make likes and even add in your own pieces of hair to the picture. I will tell you this, your picture isn't going to look exactly like the original picture, but its pretty close.
Add the last finishing touches and your done! Ignore the little spec on the chin. It was a piece of eraser. If your feeling extra creative you can even add color to your new drawing.
