difficult but rewarding project.

So for my sweet sixteen my aunt made me this BEAUTIFUL Alice in wonderland dress. She also gave me the rest of the fabric and I was excited to make myself a pair of gloves. However the process was annoying and ridiculously difficult and the fabric wasn’t stretchy enough so I had to sew the gloves onto myself. That being said I didn't take any pictures so you guys are going to get rather crappy paint pictures to show you how to make these things. Also I wanted you guys to see the beautiful work my aunt did so the other pictures up there are just to show off the dress. :)

Instructions

  1. Step 1 1

Start with a square of fabric a little bit bigger than needed to wrap around your hand and wrist.
I used the same blue silky fabric from the dress and it took me a few tries to get something resembling a square :/ then I had the difficulty of drawing the lines onto the fabric. I would recommend using lined paper underneath because the marker WILL bleed through and the lines give you a guide for how far apart to draw the lines.

  2. Step 2 2

Now you have the lines drawn on wrap the fabric around your wrist and make a line with safety pins so you know where to cut. Leave a seam allowance when you cut big enough to hand sew.

  3. Step 3 3

Okay now you are going to add a bit of a hem to the entire shape. It shouldn’t resemble a square anymore, more like a trapezoid. Just fold over enough to sew and pin it so it won’t move while you sew the rest. (And it will move, constantly and mercilessly)

  4. Step 4 4

Fold it around your hand and sew it **only at the top to start** make sure it is as far down as you want on your wrist and up high enough by your fingers. Then either tie a knot and start again below the thumb or stitch along one side of the fabric a bit to get below the thumb.

  5. Step 5 5

    (Okay SUPPER crappy picture sorry!)
Now you have the top sewn you are going to lace up the side like in the picture. Unless you are wearing the gloves within a few hours of making them I would leave a rather long tail so you can get them on and off. Before wearing them, cut the string short.

  6. Step 6 6

If you would like to attempt buttons and button holes more power to you! I was tempted to use hooks and eyes but I didn’t really have the time. So go on put on your gloves and have a party! (You are going to want to celebrate the ending of the difficult journey to make Alice in Wonderland gloves)
