Indeed it is.. that's why it's a good idea to take it in small doses such as lolly pops.

No you probably wouldn't then.. considering it tastes very strongly of the two. You should make these with a drink you do like though.. malibu would be nice.

I just got it in the supermarket. It's legal over here. You can buy it online if you are stuck - try the La Fee Absinthe website.

What a great idea. I wonder though, whether the alcohol in the absinthe evaporates at that temperature (150F / 70C)...?

isn't the alcohol volatilizable in this temprature?

We had a rather disasterous attempt at making these tonight. I suggest that you don't try this without a candy thermometer. Some things just don't work when you wing it!

OK. So where can I get this? We bought a bottle while in St. Martin but haven't opened it yet. Sounds great to me. So how do you feel when you drink the stuff?

For the older kids, you can buy absinthe online. A number of places stock it, La Fee is one that will ship to the US.

Hmm, you could perhaps try some aniseed or licorice flavouring, if such a thing exists. Try different flavourings though, you can use any - strawberry, cherry, vanilla. Otherwise, I guess you'll just have to wait until you're old enough.

You don't really get the full effect of absinthe because it's only a small amount, perhaps if you had lots of them.

I tried to make this last night, but only managed to make a big hunk of browned sugar. It's soaking in my sink to try to get it out of the pan. Would you suggest putting it over high heat to cook? I couldn't get it up to the 300 degrees until I cranked the temp up, so I think it boiled too long. I'd love to have these done for a halloween party this weekend. . . Thanks.
Cat Morley
Oct 24, 2007 8:03pm
I think it's best to heat it on a medium flame and gradually bring the temperature up. It's really important that you remove it from the heat as soon as it reaches the hard crack stage, using a confectionary thermometer should help.

Cat, im a bit too young to Have alcohol So i know its Stupid.. But is there a non-alcoholic Substance i could use instead? PLZZZ REPLY PLZ PLZ PLZ :D
Cat Morley
Dec 14, 2007 10:04pm
Hey Courtney, if you want to get the same absinthe taste, you could use some kind of aniseed flavoring, licorice flavoring would work well too. You can use this recipe and substitute the absinthe for any kind of flavoring you like.
