80´s Boxy T Shirt

Refashioning large tees.

This is a 10 minute reconstruction for a extralarge thrifted band t-shirt. Super easy to make, no sewing needed. Tools: scissors + t-shirt.

A pro will do this under 5 min, but a first-timer it might tae up to 30 min.

This is what I started out with - a long sleeved band-tee. At least three sizes too big. Remember to was your shirt before cutting.
Cut the sleeves. Here I had to cut the other sleeve between the images. If you have a short sleeved tee, cut right above the edge-stitching. No sewing needed!

Leikkaa hihat lyhyiksi. Esimerkkipaidassamme oli kuvioita molemmissa hihoissa, joten leikkasimme hihan kuvioiden välistä. Näin se näyttää siistimmältä päällä. Jos t-paita on lyhythihainen, leikkaa hihansuukäänteen yläpuolelta eli n. 2cm hihan reunasta pois. Hihan suuta ei tarvitse päätellä tai kääntää.
I cut the other sleeve also right between the graphics. Now it is 2cm (1/2 inces) shorter than the other sleeve. It does not matter since this shirt will be worn asymmetrically. Refashioning is not an exact science!

Leikkaa nyt toinen hiha samalla tavalla. Esimerkkipaidassamme oli kuvioita hihassa, joten päädyimme leikkaamaan myös toisen hihan kuvioiden välistä. Näin toinen hiha on nyt 2cm lyhyempi kuin toinen, mutta se ei haittaa sillä tämän mallista t-paitaa käytetään melkein aina vain toisen olan yli. Vinkki: Säästä ylimääräiset hihapalat muihin trashion-projekteihisi, varsinkin. Kuvioiduista kohdista saa esim. hakaneuloilla kiinnitettäviä merkkejä laukkuun tai takkiin.
Cut two slits about 3cm (about 1 inch) from the collar. Make sure you cut them in a 90 degree angle to se shoulder seam.

Aloita pääntien leikkaaminen tekemällä noin 1,5 cm aukileikkaukset n. 3 cm päähän kauluksen reunasta. Pääntie ei näytä nyt vielä kovin isolta, mutta sen ei tarvitse olla tämän leveämpi.
Cut a circle from the slits to the centre as close to the collar (mid-front) than possible.

Leikkaa pääntie edestä kauniissa kaaressa halkiosta halkioon. Leikkaa kaari mahdollisimman läheltä paidan alkuperäistä kaulusta. Pääntien reunaa ei tarvitse kääntää tai huolitella. Vanhojen t-paitojen neulos ei yleensä purkaannu, ei edes pesussa.
Flip the tee over and do the same to the back. Cut a beautiful arc as close to the mid-back of the collar as possible.

Käännä paita ympäri. Leikkaa samanlainen kaunis kaari takakappaleelle mahdollisimman lähelle alkuperäistä kauluksen reunaa. Tässä väliä on jätetty n. 1cm. T-paidan pääntien tulee olla korkeammalla takakappaleelta kuin edestä!
Try the shirt on. Cut the hem. I usually cut about 10 cm (4 inces). Fold the hem as you cut so the length will stay the same.

Leikkaa ylimääräinen helma pois. Yleensä noin 10 cm riittää. Laita sivusaumat tasan ja aloita leikkaaminen 90 asteen kulmassa saumaan nähden. Näin helmasta tulee suora, vaikka se olisi venynyt. Käännä helmaa paidan päälle sitä mukaan kun leikkaat, jotta pituus pysyy samana.

Oo, crafty! :D I wish I could read Finnish. :P

I always do this to my tshirts, it makes them look really good. What looks quite cool is wearing a tight fitting long-sleeved top underneath in a contrasting colour, and tucking the shirt loosely into your trousers =)
