Cut Out + Keep

3 D Paper Hearts

Simple, adorable hearts made of just about anything! ♥

This is a pretty easy heart project to make. I found out how to make them off of a Youtube video after a night of sheer frustration. I was unable to make origami hearts for Valentine's Day and did not have the time to buy origami paper, (or the patience to learn how!). After trying and trying and searching and searching I found a fast and simple tutorial on how to make these little guys! They are super quick, and you can make them from just about any paper. I made mine out of old magazines, but any foldable paper will do. Please excuse the occasional blurry picture, these were taken rather late. XP

Instructions

  1. Small 012 1275546915

Cut a strip of paper. It can pretty much any width (although the smaller they are, the more difficult the final steps will be) but should be at least 6 inches long. Place the side you would like your heart to look like face down.

  2. Small 013 1275546965

Take the end of the strip and fold it once horizontally.

  3. Small 014 1275547010

Take the end you have just folded and fold the corner up to the edge to creat a triangle.

  4. Small 015 1275547059

    Fold that triangle up.

  5. Small 016 2

    Then fold the triangle over.

  6. Small 017 1275547210

Repeat this folding until you have about an inch or so left unfolded.

  7. Small 018 1275547291

Take the end of the unfolded area and fold the corners in to make a triangle.

  8. Small 019 1275547336

Take that end and tuck the triangle into the little pocket. (If that makes any sense)

  9. Small 020 1275547402

Flip your triangle shape over so the long side is on top.

  10. Small 021 1275547905

Now use your thumbs (fingernails can be quite helpful!) and squish the top right down the middle between the corners.

  11. Small 023 1275547529

You should end up with this rather pointy-looking heart shape.

  12. Small 027 1275547606

Use your handy-dandy scissors to round out those points and make a less dangerous looking heart. (Or don't, whichever you prefer! ^_^)

  13. Small 029 1275547756

And there you have it! Adorable 3D hearts you can do just about anything with! Stuff them in a jar, hang them from your ceiling, make jewelery, glue them to a card, give them to your sweetheart or throw them at strangers! Whatever you do have fun and please share yours! :)
