Meet the Author

Hey there, can you introduce yourself?

Medium debbie cropped

I am a knitwear designer who has published over 35 books of hand knitting designs. I came out with a range of knitting yarns 15 years ago and recently launched an e-commerce homewares site. www.debbieblissonline.com
I live in East London with husband Barry and dogs Smiffy and Monty. I love pie and mash.

Tell us a bit about the book?

Woolly Woofers is a book of over 20 knitwear designs for dogs. There are some comic oufits such as Cow Bow Wow and the Wolf in Sheep’s clothing . There are also some more classic designs for the smart dog about town such as the Sherlock Bones outfit which comes with a deerstalker hat, of course!

What was the inspiration behind it?

Talking to Lisa Pendreigh, my lovely editor at Quadrille, who is also dog mad , it seemed a perfect idea to combine my two loves , dogs and knitting.

Which is your favourite project?

Mmm, a close run thing but probably has to be Sherlock Bones although Ernie and Brian the pugs look very smart in their fisherman sweaters, Smiffy looks the perfect Francophile in his Breton top…….

What is your craft space like?

A former bedroom converted into a studio, white walls, grey painted floorboards, inhabited by me, my daughter Nell and assistant Teresa, ( the new design team for the brand Conway and Bliss), Dandelion our Chinese work experience student, dogs and sometimes the office baby Bea.

Have you always been creative?

I have always loved art , design and fashion. As a child I always spent my pocket money on stationary and art materials rather than sweets.

When did you first start crafting?

The first thing I made was dress for my doll. It was in grey tweed and had a frill at the hem.

Who are your crafty heroes?

I love Erika Knight’s aesthetic, Pam Allen an American designer, and in the past Patricia Roberts and Marion Foale.

Where do you find inspiration?

Everywhere.

What's next for you?

Another book for Quadrille which will be more technically biased, more products on my online shop and working on designs in my new yarns for A/W 15!
