Meet the Author

Hey there, can you introduce yourself?

Medium jennifer paganelli

Hi Everyone! Jennifer Paganelli here! I'm a fabric designer, Author of two Chronicle published books (Girl's World & Happy Home), PDF Pattern designer with my awesome partner, Carla Crim of Scientific Seamstress, I design and make original handmade crafts, and also design a range of lifestyle products for the home. I live and work in CT and feel so lucky to have a big, sunny studio filled with glitter, vintage notions and endless inspiration where my dreams of designs come into fruition!

Tell us a bit about the book?

Happy Home consists of 21 special projects that will infuse your home with happy. The book is filled with illustrations (and patterns in the front cover!) that easily walk you through fun, practical, vintage-inspired projects for the home. From DIY party decor and pillows to ruffled napkins and a sun hat, the book is such a special gem overflowing with eye candy, thanks to our awesome photographer, Tim Geaney.

What was the inspiration behind it?

Happy Home came from a collection of ideas I had accumulated over the years. I realized that my collection of happy & inspiring projects made up a beautiful compilation of well-rounded projects that would indeed pretty up a home. Plus, after Girl's World, I felt that adults needed their very own version! What we LOVE about Happy Home (and Girls' World too) is that it's always being used as inspiration for weddings & all sorts of parties. The projects are versatile and whimsical.

Which is your favourite project?

That's such a tough question! Of course, I love them all. I would say that the "Everything is Coming up Roses" basket is near and dear to my heart because it gave me the opportunity to share with people this beautiful technique that I use so much and always get asked about! People don't realize that it's totally attainable and that these supplies are lurking around your local flea market and craft stores. What I love most about all of the projects is letting people in and then seeing their interpretations!

What is your craft space like?

I am so lucky-- my space is in my home in CT. It's large and beaming with sunlight (and glitter). It's upstairs, which is in a way, away from it all, but also right in the heart of the home (next to my kids' bedrooms!). They are both grown up now, but I love their presence around my craft room when they come home to visit. I've got large working stations, which I find necessary, and lots of shelving for my materials and inspiration!

Have you always been creative?

I have to give my Mother credit here, because I'm certain I get it from her! It even goes as far back as my grandmother -- I remember sitting down with my grandmother as she taught me the ins and outs of sewing a yo-yo. It's always been in my blood and I've always worked in creative industries.

When did you first start crafting?

I have always been crafting, but I got more involved when my children were young. It helped me carve out "me" time. My early pieces were usually vintage inspired and maybe even comprised of vintage elements. Today, I still get my inspiration from those simple elements that inspired me as a child.

Who are your crafty heroes?

Lilly Pulitzer and Marimekko have always been an inspiration to me. As for other crafty heros and inspiration, I turn to flea markets and tons of blogs.

Where do you find inspiration?

Again, flea markets really tend to be a source of inspiration for me. It's where my ideas come to me and it's where things in their most natural, basic form inspire me to do something big and grand with them!
