Meet the Author

Hey there, can you introduce yourself?

Medium flower crowns project 21

Hi! I'm Christy Meisner Doramus, owner of @CrownsbyChristy (www.crownsbychristy.com) and author of FLOWER CROWNS: 30 DIY Floral Creations. I live in Manhattan and design flower crowns and floral installations.

Tell us a bit about the book?

The book is filled with a variety of themed flower crown and floral hair piece projects for a wide range of occasions. From music festivals to baby showers and holiday events, there are projects in this book that are appropriate all year round. Flower crowns are no longer just for the springtime!

What was the inspiration behind it?

Growing up, I always made my own wildflower chains and as an adult, I started making flower crowns for fun in the backyard for myself and friends. When the flower crown trend began growing in popularity, others were asking me how to make them so this book was my chance to share my self-taught techniques with everyone. Now, anyone can make flower crowns easily with the simple steps in my book.

Which is your favourite project?

It really depends on the day and occasion, but one of my favorite crowns to make is Project 13: Fall Harvest Fresh Flower Crown. I absolutely love how seeded eucalyptus looks in a crown - it just takes on a life of its own!

What is your craft space like?

I am sort of a "Creative Chaos" person and thankfully, my husband has grown to respect this about me. I have completely taken over our Manhattan apartment with flowers and flower crown supplies.

Have you always been creative?

Yes, but it is all thanks to my mom who is the most resourceful person ever. She can make something out of nothing and growing up, always taught me how to sew my own dresses, make quilts etc. We took on tons of DIY projects together and this is what has truly led me down this path.

When did you first start crafting?

I remember sitting on my mom's lap around age 4 as she taught me how to use a sewing machine. We practiced sewing squares together to form a quilt.

Who are your crafty heroes?

@fashionablehostess @LHCalligraphy and the queen of crafting of course, @DarcyMiller

Where do you find inspiration?

Instagram! I am constantly looking for new and inspiring accounts to follow.
