Meet the Author

Hey there, can you introduce yourself?

I am a designer, maker and tutor based in the East Coast of Scotland. I specialise in knitting, crochet, feltmaking, sewing & embroidery.

Tell us a bit about the book?

My book introduces fun and simple novelty themed hat designs. From a cute fleecey frog hat for a baby to a cheeky knitted polar bear hat for an adult, there is something for everyone. I have also covered a range of techniques and have included projects suitable for beginner as well as experienced crafters.

What was the inspiration behind it?

It was my publisher Kyle Books idea. Having worked with them previously on 'I Love Knitting' and 'I Love Crochet' they were familiar with my style of work and commissioned me to write the book.

Which is your favourite project?

My favourite has to be Sarah's Cow hat. It makes me giggle everytime I see it.

What is your craft space like?

I turned my spare room in my upper villa cottage into my craft studio. It is packed full of yarns, fabrics and sparkly embellishments as well vintage finds, from an old typewriter to sewing supplies I inherited from my great aunties. My desk is a upcycled retro white table which I picked up in a local thrift shop for £10!

Have you always been creative?

I have always been a creative person. I absolutely loved painting and making things at primary school, that was always my favourite part of the week as I had a fantastic art teacher. I had always planned to go to Art School and I always knew I wanted a career in Art/Design.

When did you first start crafting?

When I was eight I remember making a salt dough star and angel, both tied with bobbilly wool and covered with lots of sparkly decoration. They still appear on my parents tree each xmas!

Who are your crafty heroes?

I'm a huge fan of Danielle Proud, Donna Wilson & Poppy Treffery. I love their style of work.

Where do you find inspiration?

I usually look in local thrift shops. I love the colours & patterns you find on antique homewares and vintage textiles.

What's next for you?

At the moment I am putting together book proposals to send out to publishers with the hope that I might have an exciting new project to get stuck into soon! I am also in the process of setting up my own YouTube channel.

We don't have any more information on this book right now.
