Clay Tools

Hi, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me a cheap set of clay tools to use with Sculpey clay? that have basic ones to use, so I can just play around with various designs. I mainly make small figurines or simple clay projects, nothing complicated. Thanks!

Well i dont know of any brands specifically. id say go to the craft store and look around; im sure theyd have a good n cheap set. you could also use things found around the house such as eating utensils, tooth picks, and sewing needles for details. Search your house and im sure youd find some useful tools. hope this helps!

I have been grabbing everything to test out textures and designs. But I think the best idea I have had was to buy plastic knives and use a exacto knife to cut it into the plastic and make different tools Happy Or if you want to just buy some check out etsy.com they always have tons of supplies for sculpey clay Happy

Makins cutters and tools are cheap, but everyday household items can be used (aslong as you dont use them for food afterwards)

Either a pasta machine (which I dont have) or a special acrylic roller (which i dont have lol) or a cheap plastcie rolling pin (which I do own!) sometimes the cheaper things work just as well.

But I have just ordered some embossing powders to experiment with polymer clay, some special tranfer foils, texture sheets to roll the clay on, Liquid Fimo all to try some new techniques

I remember finding spoons very helpful as you used them to make your clay smooth and shinny when you were finished with sculpting it.

Okay so here's something cheap on bugets! (but when I say cheap....)

Pencil(rolling, cirles, points, mechanicial pencil lead is great)
foil(flattening, nice working surface)
Tic Tack box....(cut it right, nice cutter)
Plastic knife
Nail polish (as laquer)
bobby pins(the wavy pattern, dots)

Edit more as I thinkHappy

I've used nail polish on sculpey and it seemed to work ok.

What I have found though, is not to leave your baked polymer charms on your felt beading board- mine got all fluffy!

Use nail polish once baked ad cooled. I prefer clear.
