    Crafting Around the World

Started almost 2 years ago · Last post about 1 year ago · Displaying all 11 Post
I was thinking about doing a summer of crafts from around the world. Each week throughout the summer, I will do a craft from a different country and blog about it on this site. Right now, I need to do some research on what countries and crafts I will do and once I have it planned out, I will write a blog about it.

    Sounds like a cool idea!

How are you going to decide which countries and crafts to choose? And are you going to approach each craft in a traditional way or just let it inspire you?

In the meantime, here are some ideas and inspiration from Scotland:
Knitting - Aran and FairIsle patterns
    Celtic Knotwork
    Wood-turning
    Silversmithing
    Stained glass
    Charles Rennie Mackintosh
    Tartan :D
    natural dyeing

I'll do crafts that best represent each country's culture and what I am able to do best. bindiibabe: thanks for your ideas. I was definitely thinking of doing something with Celtic knotwork. I seriously love Celtic things!! Thanks for your ideas.

One quick and easy idea that looks really pretty (and impressive) when done is tracing off a celtic design onto shrink plastic. If you key both sides then put your outline on one side and colour on the other, it ends up looking like little pieces of stained glass.
PLUS, anyone who doesn't realize what its made from thinks you painted all those teeny tiny intricate little swirls & knots that size....lol. Its quite funny watching them try to work it out :D

australian aborignal style prints look epic on bags and tees but an opera house made out of nachos is cute too

In South Africa, the local crafts are typically earthy colours and to do with the Big Five (Lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo). Cave paintings of bushmen is also common
