Etsy Shipping, how do I do it?

I've finally decided to make an Etsy shop! I'm very excited about it and I know all of the logistics, the only thing I'm wary about is shipping my products to people. How do I go about that? What's the best way to go, and how much should I charge? Thanks in advance!

i usually ship United States Postal Service Priority Shipping with Confirmation number. It is usually $5 and change so i charge $6 for shipping and handling fees. It's a little high price for some people- but I know it's the best way to ship something, and being able to give them a confirmation number so they can track their package is great. I've only ever had 1 package not reach it's destination within the 2-3 days and that was at chirstmas time. now if you are shipping stuff that is small enough for first class, i would recommend that because it costs less and takes just about the same time. you can even order FREE priority boxes and envelopes online! good luck with your shop!

Yeah, thanks for that info Heather, and I googled it too babydrea. But still when you get the boxes free, do you still have to pay for the shipping? How exactly does that work?

yea you still have to pay.. on usps.com it has all the prices. alot of them in the us is about 5 to send. i think the big one is around ten.

Yeah, that's what I thought, I ordered some things from the site, as I do a lot of shipping...for swaps and my online shop, but I think it costs me less to use the yellow envelopes that I buy in a pack. Oh well, they are coming now, so I guess they will come in handy for shipping for the heavier packages I sometimes get. Hmm, now I can make things in swaps that are heavy and not have to worry about expensive postage!!! Niiiice!

flat rate boxes you can stuff as much as you want and you don't have to worry about weight. i use regular priority boxes because plushies tend to be very light weight and it's not worth paying the flat rate fee.

Yeah, I shipped my plushie swap in a yellow envelope to Mexico and it costs less than the flat rate, about less than half.

Thanks for all the replies, guys! I guess I might use envelope when starting out since I'll probably just be selling my buttons on Etsy. I wouldn't want to charge 5 dollar shipping for buttons that only cost two dollars!

Pepper, I always use First Class when shipping my items on Etsy which are jewelry and they usually will fit in the smallest size bubble mailers. I believe it costs $1.22 right now to ship an ounce in a bubble mailer within the US First Class. If you don't have time to go to the post office and are sure of the weight at home you can use PayPal shipping labels. They charge about 0.19 extra than what you would pay at the post office, but the buyer gets confirmation that you printed the label via e-mail. If you plan on shipping a lot, you might want to try buying bubble mailers in bulk on eBay. That's how I roll. lol
