plushie ideas!

I really like to make monster plushies in the shape of electrical equipment [washing machine, boombox etc] and I'd really like to make some more but my mind's kinda blank.
I've been considering making a toaster for a while now, but I'm not too sure about that...

any ideas for what else may be cute?
I'm going to try and make a how-to of my next plushie if I can, so maybe suggest something that you'd like to have a go at yourself.

any other non-electrical suggestions are welcome to. hehe Happy

A little newbie sewing advice?

http://rowena.typepad.com/rostitchery/infinity-dress.html

I recommend this!

It's kinda like what you posted about, but you can wear it in loooooads of different ways. It can look really fancy or really casual- and considering how much wear you can get out of it, it'll be super cheap to make!

I also think it's pretty easy to make!

A little newbie sewing advice?

ok since no one else has posted...

I haven't got a sewing machine and never used one but there's basic things to take into account when you follow a pattern. Read it all the way through first, maybe even copy it in note form so it's even easier to follow. Just go slowly and carefully and if it doesn't work out then you have some experience and next time your skills will be be much improved.

I always start off at a level too advanced for me because I'm too impatient, I'd rather experiment then start with beginner level things lol I think going in at the deep end is good because then you don't get stuck on only doing easy things.

You could just google search for a simpler pattern Happy have fun at the wedding!

A little newbie sewing advice?

Im all for tackling things head on. Its generally how I learn things. But Im wondering if you creatives would weigh in with your experience.

My brother in law is getting married in May. Id really like something special to wear to it. Im not above buying it, if my 'project plans' don't work out. But it tickles me to think I might be able to make myself something interesting and fabulous without having to pay loads of money for it.

I've been looking at patterns for things to try out first. This one from McCalls: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5752.htm??tab=dresses&page=1 peaked my intererst. The little black dress. I can see it in a jewel blue with a beautiful broach similar to the dragon fly featured in the pic.

My question is. For a newbie sewer.. I have the basics down. I did 'darts' and such when I took home ec in highschool.. many many years ago. But I do have a basic understanding of sewing. I have a pretty standard machine. Nothing amazingly fancy, or with loads of attachments. But the usual bits that are needed.

Do you think Im taking on too much starting off with this pattern? Does anyone have any links to 'simple patterns' that don't look like belted pillowcases?

Much appreciated.

Didz

Sewing on a patch?

Thanks everyone. Yeah, I think I know what everyone is talking about, lol, I know that it is really hard to describe a stitch in words. Anyway, pretty much what everyone said is what I assumed, so I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Sewing on a patch?

when i hand sew a patch i use a little heat and bond on the backside to hold it in place
the stitch really depends on the type of fabric your useing

Sewing on a patch?

When I was sewing patches on my sash for Brownies (*gets all nostalgic* haha) I would oversew them round the edges, but make sure I put the needle up and down through the fabric just underneath the edge of the badge so that the stitches wouldn't be visible.
I'm not sure how clear that is to understand, I'll see if I can find a diagram.

Sewing on a patch?

I actually don't know exactly what the hat is made out of, but it is a typical baseball hat. The patch is one of those thicker, raised ones, like one that a girl/boyscout would earn.

Sewing on a patch?

what is the hat made of? I'd say just use running stitch like this - - - - - - - - - although the stitches will be visable that way...I'm no good at describing sewing!!!
