Stress
Started 6 months ago · Last post 6 months ago ·
I love deep breathing exercises when I am about to explode. I took karate when I was a kid, like 8-15, and they had a exercise we'd do at the end of each lesson, about not using karate as a "weapon" but for self defense, and how you should use your brain to win fights instead of your fists, that kinda stuff. But then we practice breathing and meditation for 30 min, and I loved it. It really stuck with me over the years. I also used to do yoga when I had a gym membership, and loved the relaxing time at the end of the class too. When I'm stressed and at home I like to just go sit in a comfy chair or in my bed, away from everyone, with the lights off and just breath, chill out, and reflect. If I am stressed and out running around, like maybe waiting in line at the store and its just utter chaos that day, I try to tune out everyone and control my breathing, inhale slow for 7 seconds, hold it for 5, then slowly breath out for 7 seconds. Something like that :)
Also just pretending to be happy works for me, like if I am stuck somewhere I don't want to be and I hate it but I cant leave, I just smile like I am happy, but on the in side I'm like FLM. I've noticed that works great around my hubby, because if I am acting like I'm OK and happy, he'll be ok and happy, then him being happy will rub off on to me and I'll actually start to be happy, weird I know. But it works a lot for me!
Sometimes you need to just treat yourself to something nice! If you're having a terrible week and you really need a pick-me-up, go buy something you like, and make a big deal about it. It doesn't have to be a big purchase. I'm always spending money wisely, because my hubby is the only one with a job, so I have to pick and choose when I can buy craft supplies and when I can ship swap stuff, and then when I can by new pants or whatever. So one thing I like to do that isn't expensive is to plan a day to go to the mall or stores. I'll tell my hubby which day we're going, its usually on the weekend. Then he knows were going and to be ready, less stress already because its planned :) Anyway we'll get dressed nice, go to the mall and just walk around window shopping and cool stuff and I buy one thing under $20.00, it usually ends up being a book. Then we get a special snack, like ice cream or a big cookie from the bakery at the mall. So we end up only spending a few dollars, but we have fun and get to hand out together. Another option is we drive to the comic book store and I get to buy some books, which are only like $3 each, then we go get lunch at a nice burger joint or something. So again, we're spending a small amount of money and we get to hang out with each other and I get to buy something I love.
I think I am the master of Zen, lol. I was a very angry kid not like yell and scream and start fights, but I had a lot of internal anger and rage. I had to learn to deal with it so it wouldn't make me explode or become extremely depressed. I also used get really bad anxiety depression, that I didn't deal with well, and have been working on for the last 6-7 years, I am happy to say that I can usually regulate myself and my moods, so that I don't become depressed, and I think I live in a pretty stressful environment. Anyway, my hubby is in the military and we have a lot of crazy stuff happen to us, he leaves for training stuff at the last min, he's been to Iraq once and almost had to go to Afghanistan, we've moved across the country 2 times and are doing it again in December. So I get a lot of practice to control my stress, LOL. But when I control my stress levels or deal with my stress so it doesn't build up I totally see it rub off on to my hubby, he is less stressed and more helpful if I am less stressed.

My hubby has 2, one is a celtic cross on his left forearm and the other is this awesome sketch he did of "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" but he added in the kanji symbol for Honor, and the Wheel of Dharma, then he did a cool frame boarder that looks like wood. The Tattoo artist touched up the sketch a bit more and did the shading, but the whole idea and drawing/placement of everything was done by my hubby. Which is awesome because it just started as a doodle, he isn't an artist or anything. Its really awesome that he got exactly what he wanted and it was all his ideas. Anyway here is a pic of his, because I love it so much.
Here is the left side- showing the kanji for honor

I have one about a 2 inch square sized celtic knot. I was 18 when I got it and was not prepared for it, kinda like a random afternoon activity, lol. Anyway its on my left shoulder blade, and it is just a outline because the tattoo artist was not patient with me, and I was not taking them pain well :( Then later I found out the jackass did it upside down :((((((( so the triangle is inverted. I really want more, but I really need to find a great artist who can work with me *because apparently I'm a big baby*
Here is a clip art of what mine looks like

Quilting Related Swaps?
Started 7 months ago · Last post 7 months ago ·
Anyone can make a swap, usually its the Vets who get them going, but most the time when newbies start their first swap they have a vet be the co-host to help point them in the right directions with things and are there to help out with any Q's. If you wanted to make your own swap, I'd suggest doing the Newbie Vs Vet Swap 1st to get a feel for how it works and then when that's finished get a swap started with a helpful vet ^_^ But that's just a suggestion

What Else to Make for Christmas Craft Fair?
Started 7 months ago · Last post 7 months ago ·
Oh I love the idea of the sleeping mask!!!! That sounds awesome, it would be even cooler if you paired it with a small bottle of scented lotion, something relaxing like lavender or peppermint, and put but with a little bag! You could easily charge $10-15 for a set, depending on how long it takes you to see and what size lotion you pair with it.
Even if you did your regular sets of lotion and soap, lotion and scrub, or lotion and lip gloss/perfume, if you made a cut little bag for them to go in, that would be adorable. You could just make a variety of colors of the same patten of bags and then say like "lotion & soap set with bag of your choice $20" or whatever your prices are.
But I think you have a good idea with the sleeping masks, could you fill the mask with something like a bit if rice and them add in a few drops of essential oils to make them feel heavier and smell amazing? If not maybe just spritz them with a bit of oil :)
Once upon a time I bought this amazing stuff called something like "night time pillow spray" and it smelled like a minty lavender heaven, anyway the idea was to spritz some on your pillow a as your getting ready for bed and the smell would help you relax as fall asleep. It was amazing :) I tried to find it ever since and can't, I've found a few brands like it but haven't tried them yet. Anyway if you could make something like that in small amounts you could put them in those cheap travel size spray bottles. And them pair then with a matching lotion. Or a sleeping mask.
Have you seen those little Chapstick holders I've been crocheting on FB? My sister and her friends live those, they are fast and easy to make and you already have the Chapstick :)

Ok Pinkweeds :) I will totally add in some baby items. I have a few cute hat patterns, one is a little pixie and and I just love it, but I haven't ever made mittens, so I'll have to do a trial pair to see how they turn out, lol.

Thanks for the info everyone-
Ashley I will totally try and make some little amigurumi items after I feel like I've got enough hats and scarves, I was kinda thinking I should do that, but you convinced me, lol :)
Caitlin- I had that same idea, but I didn't know what teams to make it for, I'll be selling in Idaho, which doesn't have a sports team (not a legit one) and the closets thing to a team Idaho has is the Boise State Broncos in foot ball, but my home town has a different university in it (Idaho State) So I don't think sports teams colors will sell. So I'm staying away from obvious team colors and also trying to stay away from the red, green&white Christmas combo, except for a few small things, just because I feel like you cant wear those before Thanksgiving or after New Year's or you look goofy, lol.

Feedback on Craft Fair Items

Thanks Monica and Andrea :)
I'm kinda torn up on prices :( I feel like they are worth a lot more than people would probably pay, like the rainbow scarf, everyone loves, but everyone says they wouldn't pay $20.00 for it, and I feel like it should be $20+ because of the time it took to make it and it is really soft and long. So that's why I'm asking opinions about it. It seems like anyone who crafts can realize how much time/effort/supplies an items must have taken but everyone else is cheap and doesn't want to pay $20.00 for a basic 100% wool scarf (the purple one) It took $10.00 of yarn to make, and so if I sell it for $10, I make $0 on in :( But it I price them too high I'll be stuck with all the inventory until next year, or the summer if I can get into the farmer market.
So that's the problem, price too high, the wont sell, price too low I get screwed. lol
Anyway I think I will end up adjusting the prices up a bit, then I can do things like
buy a hat and get $5.00 off a scarf.
buy two hair accessories and instead of being $10 total its $8
Stuff like that. lol
I will be selling my jewelry, I'm just not going to make any thing other than what I already have, which is a lot, I have like 200 ish items of jewelry already, lol. So I'm focusing on crochet items.

Hey friends ^_^
My mom signed me up to sell my jewelry and crochet items at a craft fair back home at the end of November. It's like a Holiday Bazaar, where you can buy little handmade gifts for people for Christmas. I wont actually get to be there because I'll be busy moving, but my mom and friend will run my both for me. I have all my jewelry already done, since I have a huge inventory already made from selling online, but they asked me to make crochet items as well.
They suggested I try and make things that would be fun stocking stuffers, and close to $10.00, but not over $20.00, because they didn't the the more expensive things will sell a lot.
I have to have everything finished and mailed to them by November 19th!! So I want to get as much done as possible, that means small or quick projects that can be finished in a less than a few hours, that way I wont spend too much time on any one item.
I would really like some feedback on things such as,
Which items are your Favorite
Which do you think will do well or do bad
Are they priced correctly
Project ideas for something else
stuff like that :) I've been uploading the pics of what I have done to a Facebook album that is open to the public, so if you have time, go look through them and "like" your favorites and/or leave helpful comments.
Thanks!

I check on mine every so often to see if any one had Q's about a project. They are going to have a feature that alerts you when someone comments or favorites one of your projects, but they are still working on that :)
I'm sure lots of people check the stats on their projects too!

Halloween Music
Started 7 months ago · Last post 7 months ago ·
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Midnight Syndicate
that is all you'll ever need for Halloween :D
Ok we'll it isn't like popular radio music that happens to be good for Halloween, its actual Halloween music, that is great for background music during a party of handing out treats. My fav albums are Gates of Delirium, 13th Hour, Out of the Darkness, and Vampyre: Symphonies from the Crypt.
If you want radio music for a party, I used to work at a Halloween store and some of my favs from the countless CD's we had of Halloween music were,
Bad Moon Rising by Credence Clearwater Revival
Devil went down to Georgia by Charlie Daniels Band
Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr
Monster Mash by Bobby "boris" picket and the crypt kickers
Somebody's Watching Me by Rockwell
Time Warp by Little Neil, Patricia Quinn and Richard O'Brian
Witch Doctor by Sha Na Na
Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo
The Adams Family Theme
Black Magic Woman by Santana
I Put a Spell on You by Credence Clearwater Revival
I hope those help :) Now it makes me want to listen to all those great Halloween songs again!
