I just had to tell everyone about our Brighton Bead Shop Silver Jubilee RNLI Fundraising Day.
(For people outside the UK, jsut incase you've not heard of them, RNLI stands for Royal National Lifeboat Institution).
On Saturday 5th March we held a big fundraising day at The Brighton Bead Shop. We held a whole host of in-store activities including a children’s treasure hunt, face painting, and a ‘guess how many beads in the jar’ competition. All donations for the activities plus 25% of the day’s takings will go towards our target.
At the beginning of this year we ran a competition for someone to come up with a design for a large commemorative plaque to celebrate our 25 years of beading bliss. Vanessa Brooks-Fisher was our very worthy winner. Midday saw the grand unveiling, performed by Brighton celebrities, Boogaloo Stu and Dolly Rocket. The pair arrived for the ceremony resplendent in fabulous, over the top silver outfits. Two lifeboat crew members, who gave up their morning to come to the event and be photographed by the press also, very kindly, joined them. A great day was had by all and it gave a huge boost to our fundraising. Please take a look at the story and the great photos of Boogaloo Stu and Dolly Rocket with the crew! http://www.beadbarmy.com/2011/03/a-very-big-thank-you-from-the-brighton-bead-shop/
This is by no means the end of it though. All through 2011 we will be running various fundraising events and activities to help us reach our target.
For a look at what we're up to, please visit our fundraising page www.virginmoneygiving.com/BeadsUnlimited25.

I'm very excited. Our first overseas party is being held this week in Southern Ireland. Al has been selling cakes in the gym where she works no less! I guess people figure that they'll be burning off the calories anyway! I should have the results tomorrow.

Hi all, if any of you have any great cake recipes (and it looks that way from this post!) maybe you'd like to share them on my blog. We are asking for people to post their recipes to help people with their 'sea and cakes' parties. Incase you've not heard of these, we are getting people to hold tea parties in aid of the RNLI. Prizes are going to be given for our fave recipes and, yes, we are going to try them all! http://www.beadbarmy.com/2011/02/sea-and-cakes-tea-parties-a-recipe-for-success/

A fabulous £66 was made by Tracey, the first person to hold a 'sea and cakes' party! I can't wait to see what happens with the other events. I'll be posting pics on www.beadbarmy.com later this week, so you can all have a good oggle at the cakes!

Good luck for tomorrow Tracey. We now have quite a few people planning to flog cakes for the cause! An easy way to do it seems to be just to take them into your workplace and entice people when they are on their break!

Hi Michelle, You don't need to go anywhere, you can have one of our parties in your own living room with a few friends. Please have a look at my blog post for a bit more info if you're interested. http://www.beadbarmy.com/2011/01/sea-and-cakes-%e2%80%93-let%e2%80%99s-all-have-a-party/

As part of our silver jubilee celebrations we are aiming to raise £10,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. We are inviting everyone to hold a tea party to help us reach our target. It doesn't have to be anything fancy - a Victoria sponge between a few friends is fine. Please email creative@beadsunlimited.co.uk and entitle your email 'Sea and Cakes' if you would like to join in. I can send you a poster and an info pack. What better excuse can there be to eat cake and have a chit chat?

I've been doing a wedding belles series on my beading blog. Since doing it i've found some absolutely brilliant sites with great ideas that prove that weddings don't have to be a big meringue frock and dancing to Chris De Burgh (God forbid!). Here's the link if you're stumped for ideas http://www.beadbarmy.com/2010/08/wedding-belles-some-gorgeous-sites-to-see/

Hi all,
Sorry if you've read this on the other Wedding threads on here, but I wasn't sure where to post it! So I thought i'd go for all of them!
You might be interested in my latest blog post. I have just started a whole series on bespoke weddings and we are following the progress of one bride making her veil and other bits and pieces. In future wedding posts we will be including links to some cool wedding web sites we've found, top tips and ideas. If you would like to take a look please go to http://www.beadbarmy.com/
At my own wedding, I used sticks of rock for the table places with peoples names printed and wrapped round them. I made my own favour bags. We had The Beatles 'I will' as our music. I printed mini pages of the sheet music with our names and the date of the wedding on the reverse. I then rolled them up into little scrolls tied with ribbon. These went in the favour bags along with a couple of flying saucer sweets - cheap and we thought it'd make people nostalgic!
Cheers
