I was kinda shocked going into hot topic the other day. There used to be tall, pierced and tattooed guys and girls who'd work there and shoot you dirty looks and death metal playing. I went in and there was all this Twilight stuff, a very bouncy, happy song playing, and three tiny, girly-guys who worked there, talking about their boyfriends.
I just had to crack up at how /different/ it was. Of course it has been almost twelve years sense I stepped foot in one @_@.
I went to a private high school and there was a very definite chasm between two groups of people. Though to tell you the truth we outcast all kinda felt sorry for the normal people. And there were only 40ish people in my grade. So it's not exactly like in the movies. I also didn't get along with either group really well, but on good days I could eat lunch with the outcasts. The rest of the nerds worked during lunch. I ended up doing that later on in my high school years.
My brother went to public school for a year or two, and he said it was very different. Not so groupy. Of course our PreK-12 School had only 500-700 people, give or take, and that's how many people were in the graduating class of the public school. There were bound to be a few differences.
Because I'm paid to. It helps with customer service (or something). I get complimented a lot, though I wish it could be for real.
I remember doing the hot dress thing for my boyfriend. We so ended up making out in the art room :D Now I'm smiling from /that/ memory!
What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Got my degree. Yay.
Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't usually make them.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Did anyone close to you die?
It was a few years ago, but it still feels like yesterday.
What countries did you visit?
What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Is it sad I don't remember anything from this last year?
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Two jobs and a degree. I also finished nanowrimo.
What was your biggest failure?
Not finishing that damn painting.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just major depression.
What was the best thing you bought?
Acer Netbook. Or my crystal ball. Or the three hundred and forty three books.
Where did most of your money go?
Frivolous crap. And books.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
A trip to see a friend... that didn't happen.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
ii. thinner or fatter?
iii. richer or poorer?
Richer, I guess. Though I've been buying more stuff, so poorer in money, richer in crap.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Did you fall in love in 2008?
I don't know.
What was the best book you read this year?
Dear God, way too many to count. The Art Spirit is turning out fabulous, but I just got it. I suppose I remember the graveyard book best.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Doing something entirely crazy, so not me, that would have completely incensed my parents, confused the hell out of my friends, and zapped me out of this.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
What kept you sane?
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
The happier your parents are about your life track, the more miserable you are. And sometimes your brother isn't as big a jerk as he acts like.
Béla Lugosi is the only vampire for me!
I suppose I should watch more than four vampire movies to really have an opinion on them. I've only seen Underworld, Twilight, Dracula: Dead and Loving It, and Dracula (1931). Dracula was good. The others... eh... I'll be nice and say they weren't my cup of tea. Though I must admit I enjoyed Twilight because it was so bad it was hilarious. And there were some parts in the Leslie Nielsen one I genuinely laughed at.
I got 2 cds, 2 books, and a coat, three sets of pajamas (?), and a Books a Million gift card for 25 dollars. I may or may not be getting tickets to see Trans Siberian Orchestra again. If not I will be getting some money and I will use it to buy a netbook. I do not know which one I want. Probably the acer.
I had just gotten over time pay before Christmas, so while I bought Christmas presents for everyone I bought myself the absolute sandman volume three, and a real crystal ball that was on sale (regular 129, now only 32) and I'm really pleased with it.
I actually can't wait until my birthday (2 weeks) because my mom complained that there was nothing to get me, and she just found out that I have an amazon wish list :D So I'm gonna be getting some books! Yay!
I've been in the south all my life. Everyone I know has been everywhere. *sigh* Up until I was a senior in high school, I had not been north of the Mason-Dixon line. Actually, just north of I-20 was my limit. And then finally I got to go to Chicago twice, and then Colorado.
But I have the bug! I want to go everywhere. Those places aren't enough.
I only have three people I get gifts for, and I'm super bad at that... So usually when ever I see something they might like (or something I can make that they might like) I go ahead and buy or make it and give it to 'em then. I can never usually wait for Christmas. Right now I have a super cute idea for one of 'em that I'm going to make super special and I can't wait, and I know what I would like to buy my boyfriend (if some cousin's wedding wasn't sucking up all my funds. Seriously.) I'm only really stuck on one :(.
I worked in retail long enough to have an intense dislike of the holiday season, though I'm fine with the whole general idea. Most people know this and know I could really not use more stuff. So it works out.
For my family, my cousin and I usually get together and do a giant craft fest and make cool things for everyone.
looking at the clock does make it worse, I think ^_^
I'll get up and check email or something, but I try not to do that, because then I just pretty much give up and do not sleep at all....
Once I went and took a hot shower and that seemed to help. Sometimes I'll act out going to bed again, put on different pajamas, brush my teeth and hair... all the fun stuff, and go back to bed. :P
Mostly I read and or write while in bed if I don't want to get up.
I love new kittens!
Our last kitten was pretty much wild at first, but I managed to catch it (At my parents insistence) and get it in my room. Scared as nothing else. I held her, put her on her back in the bed, and just kinda held her there without looking at her. Her poor little heart was racing, her mom had just ran off and left her (she'd been outside alone for days) and then some giant was just holding her down (I felt soo bad for her)...And then she finally relaxed and fell asleep. When she woke up, I ignored her, I was reading or something, she sniffed around for a bit, I just sat there, she was kinda iffy about me. Then after awhile I went to pet her, she spazzed, we repeated the process, but I didn't have to hold her down, I just scratched her ears and neck until she was relaxed... We did this for about six-seven hours: ignore, pet, spazz, relax.... and she's not had any problems with people since. I find it best to ignore them at first since they don't really like attention. But my family likes to gather around and try and coax it and play with it and dangle crap in front of it and act all aggressive (they think it's playful)... And that just doesn't work with a wild kitten. Really cute though, gray tabby with a mane and fur... tons and tons of fur. She's kinda fat now too.
Our other cat Spot just came up to my mom and said "Take me home, lady." And he just came home pretty as you please. No problems with him at all. Best cat we've ever had. Odd.
Bookstores... And spending way too much money therein.
My boyfriend was supreme leader of the table. Ryan invited us to sit at the table. Three months later, my boyfriend noticed me when my friends pelted me with butter and he told Adrian "I'd like for Allison to sit next to me." And the next day "Allison, we are moving you" and then I bounced radishes, he asked me to a dance, so I said yes, found out his last name, that he was much older than me, and my parents decided to have their midlife crisis.
And so we've been together... first loves, first kisses... all that fun jazz.
And just so everyone knows I was not on anything when I wrote that. It was definitely a high school thing.
Six eggs, bit of milk, cup or so of cheese, cherry tomatoes, some onions and spinach and sausage (you can sautee those three together in butter), and everything mixed together, put into a pie crust (not the crumbly graham cracker crust, but meat pie crust) and baked. 350 or 450 for about 30-50 minutes until a knife comes out clean.
I don't really use recipes, and this one gets changed around depending on what I'm craving and what I have. It's SOOO good though. And so easy.
I probably can't dress up at work, but I will wear my traditional bat headband... with little bat bobbles!
Last time I dressed up it was midnight and Harry Potter was coming out. Though I didn't like that as much, because the movie had come out and everyone looked like the movie characters and there was a lot less imagination.
I might go as a samurai. I've always wanted to do that, and I haven't yet.
There are so many craft books and stories about crafts, it's amazing there are not more posts. But I find the literature forums are always the slowest. Even on literature forums.
I find it a bit sad as well. But it's ok. I have library thing. And that's the best site for booklovers and collectors.

Dislike anything in pacticular: I'm pretty easy going. When people are too busy worrying about being different that they forget that they are measuring themselves by "normal" standards and still boxing themselves in based on the opposite of what people think is normal. I just find it kinda sad, though I don't want it to affect how I feel about the people.
Dream Job: If you could pay me to go to school, I'd be so happy. Though a bookstore/coffee shop/art gallery is right up there! Though I want to do so much that I don't want to do one thing for the rest of my life. I want to experience it all!
Current occupation: Receptionist at a Family Practitioner. Good pay, not a lot of worry, I'm learning a lot about medicine. It's not bad, but not what I want to do forever!

do you perfer a nice quiet outing to the beach for a nice read or out with your pals at the nearest hot spot: The read, but not on the beach (too much glare!) A nice hike in the woods that ends up over looking a lake, or a coffee shop!
finally explain your profile photo: I painted it my sophomore year of uni, and it's just been my profile image on just about everything. I should change it. Or paint another thing ^_^

I went with one of my friends as a girls night out, but it wasn't a party so much. There were only two of us and I painted a japanese style plate and my friend did a celtic knot one. So fun! So fun!
