I don't generally use it- I have it, but the only thing I ever would use it on was ribbons, and I found burning the ends of my ribbons far neater.

Vinegar bath for fabric
Started 3 months ago · Last post 2 months ago ·
It makes sense in the fact that when dying fabric you use vinegar or salt to help the color stay. Also you use vinegar to soften fabric.

What to make from tie scraps?
Started 3 months ago · Last post 29 days ago ·
I used silk ties last year to dye my easter eggs. They turned out super pretty and I loved them. I've also seen someone take a tie and make a cute stuffed snake, a sunglass case and a wallet. I've also used ties to make scarves and necklaces.

Buying fabric online
Started 4 months ago · Last post 4 months ago ·
I'm looking at making my wedding dress and would like to use 100% Silk Charmeuse in a blush color and would idealy like to buy wholesale so I don't have to pay as much. Of course my local fabric stores only sell polyester or silk dupani which is stiff and not as pretty. Does anyone know where I can purchase some online for a decent price? And possibly purchase swatches so I can get the right color.

Over Lock Sewing Machine
Started 5 months ago · Last post 5 months ago ·
Overlock machines can do plain sewing or straight stitches if you need it too. At least mine can, I've never done it but my manuel explains how.

What to do for Valentine Day?
Started 5 months ago · Last post 5 months ago ·
a few years ago I made my boyfriend a gormet pizza for dinner. I spent weeks searching the web for a pizza recipe I thought he'd like and I made it for him and we had an indoor candlelite picnic.

Couture Sewing...
Started 8 months ago · Last post 8 months ago ·
To be honest, I almost prefer hand sewing to machine. If I can sit in front of the TV and hem a skirt by hand or embroider a dress by hand, I find myself far less frusterated than when I'm trying to get my machine to work the way I want it to.

Couture mainly means handsewn. Basically practice hand stitching like hand beading and hemming and embroidery and you'll get it.

50s Style Patterns?
Started 10 months ago · Last post 9 months ago ·
ebay has tons of vintage patterns that you can get for pretty cheap. Although you may have to modify them for size. Keeping in mind that size 0 didn't exist in the 50s and actual sizes are way different now. A size 12 is about a size 4.

shirred dress ?

Cut the shape of the bodice first. Sheer the bodice after you've sewed the front and back together and finish with bias tape. Really easy.

Hand sitching for skirt
Started over 1 year ago · Last post over 1 year ago ·
Use a backstitch at the side seams as it will be the strongest possible stitch you can use and a whip stitch for the elastic casing. Lastly use a plain hem stitch for the hem of the skirt. Make sure to use a good new needle or else the fabric will snag.

I don't think they are talking about the same kind of needle. Thanks though for the response.

Serger problem!
Started over 1 year ago · Last post about 1 year ago ·
I was cleaning my feed dogs on my serger when I noticed one of the needles on my feed dog plate had broken off! I have no idea how to go about replacing it or if it's really necessary. Any one have any ideas on how to replace it? It's a kenmore 4 spool serger.

General Dressmaking

I think I learned the most about sewing by watching old Threadbanger videos. Starting at the basics and then working my way up. I was sewing for years before I ever found Threadbanger so I had a basic knowledge of sewing but I did everything the lazy way because I had no idea about how many great ways there were to make sewing easier.

Sergers! Any techniques to share?
Started over 1 year ago · Last post over 1 year ago ·
I'm not beyond those but I suggest getting some scrap fabric and going through your manuel on how to use different settings and see what your machine can do.
I also suggest keeping your machine really clean and well oiled or it will get all tangled.

Men's to women's pants ???
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post over 1 year ago ·
I would suggest not trying. Pleats for one thing will just make you look bigger in the thigh and men's pants are cut in the crotch to accommodate their men parts.
My suggestion to you is to make sure you are in fact shopping in women's sizes. They should have even numbers (12,14,16, ect) Don't worry about what size pants you need to accommodate your thighs, just purchase a pair that fit you in your widest area comfortably and then take it in at the waist if you need to.

Cat eared hoodie?

I made cat ears for a headband using pipe cleaners to help them stand up a little more... although on reflection interfacing might have worked better.
