Can anyone help me imitate this cute Pier 1 throw pillow with a ribbon applique?

Started about 1 month ago · Last post 1 day ago ·
I saw this at Pier 1 Imports the other day, and fell in love with it. However, Pier 1 is insanely expensive. Even at the reduced price, with the money I'd be paying for this throw pillow, I could make ten of my own, as well as get a manicure and a bag of kettle corn.
So I've been wondering how I can imitate the flower pattern. I thought of weaving thread in and out of one side of the ribbon, pulling the thread to gather it, and then sewing that down. I also thought of just folding the ribbon and sewing all those waves in place. But then I worry that the loops will just stick out and not stay flat on the pillow the way they do on this one. Has anyone made something like this before?

Ah, what a dunce I am! The link: http://www.pier1.com/Ribbon-Flowers-Pillow/2653690,default,pd.html

Make up brush guards how to???

Started over 3 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
    Loved the vid :)
I don't know how to make the expandable kind, it looks like it's made of a loooot of little plastic strips woven like a chinese finger trap. I do know how you can make custom-fit brush guards. You know that clear vinyl plastic that you use to cover books with? It's shiny, not the sticky kind, and it often comes in two layers in a roll. Take a layer of that, cut it into a rectangle about 2" by 3" for a big brush, and wrap it tightly around your brush, make it look like the one in the video. Then you have three options to keep it secure: Iron it against the brush to fuse the plastic together, glue it, or tape it.
    Hope that helped :)

Hmm, button projects for the kids to do, button glasses, maybe you could give out the little eyepiece thing, the triangle one with the hole, as a favor, and if you're good at knitting, you can make the striped gloves as favors? to think up some more:
Button cookies, by baking normal round cookies and poking four holes in them with a thick straw.
Or, if you can make the cookie cutters, you could make eyepiece cookies
    Marbles as party favors
A "private screening" of the movie always works well with movie-themed parties =)
You could use a photo-editing software to make print-out invites

    Custom Crayon mold (help, candy-makers!)

Started almost 3 years ago · Last post almost 3 years ago ·
I want to make standard-sized crayons with a mold that has more than one cavity. The only molds I can find are either the wrong size, or only make one at a time, so I decided to look into making my own mold with multiple cavities using the method from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47Y8GW3AW7c&feature=related I plan to glue the crayons down, tips up, secure a tube around them, and pour in the rubber cement like they did. The only problem I think I'll have is taking the crayons out of the mold, as it will be very thick, and I won't be able to push them out because of that. Does anyone have experience with large silicone mold-making? If you do, a helpful comment would be greatly appreciated. =)

    Thanks.

    Making a fringe scarf

Started about 3 years ago · Last post about 3 years ago ·
It really depends on the material. The scarf in the tute is made of a t shirt, and the material won't unravel after being cut. If your material is similar then it will work fine. To get a similar result as the purple scarf, I think you could cut the fringes a little shorter at the edges, like the fringes are decreasing gradually. Also, the tute-scarf looks more stringy than the purple one, so i suggest not cutting the fringes so deep so that you actually have the scarf part.

You could set up a table, collect white bottle caps, and have the kids make little foam daffodils.

With another strip of green foam and a stapler, you can make a little headband the kids could attatch their creation to.

More intricate, but could be lucrative.

You could make daffodils from Sculpey Clay and turn them into magnets, hairclips, buttons, embellishments, etc.

So cute and easy I'm trying it myself.

    T Shirt Printing?

Started about 3 years ago · Last post about 3 years ago ·
Try silk-screening. My uncle does it as a side thing, it's really cool. It doesn't take up a whole lot of space, but I recommend getting one of those multiple shirt stand things, as they really help. This video is probably the best explanation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee_8IMx0uMo It even shows you how to make the prints. I'd also recommend getting this type of standing oven that in essence bakes the design onto the shirt so it doesn't wash out or peel. I'm not sure what temperature you'd have to get the shirt to so it dries, but I'm sure it'll say so in the manual. Good Luck!

You'd figure that American Apparel is trying to get more women to buy their product. Since they know this site is visited mostly by women, they figured they'd advertise here. What they failed to see was that naked women do not spur most women on to buy a product, duh.

    Awesome crochet hat patterns?

Started over 3 years ago · Last post over 3 years ago ·
Zomg, my aunt made me this hat (i am a klutz with the crochet needle) with purple(red) brown (blue) and salmon (off white) yarn and it looks so cool! I even found a salmon scarf to match, it looks super cute!
Unfortunately, the website only has the materials, you need to get the magazine to see the pattern. I'm sure you can find it at your local library, or I can try to copy it down next time I get my hands on that issue.
