Since you can't find a pattern you like, then create your own pattern. Pick a theme from something you like and work on it until you are happy with your final bag. I'm also making a backpack for back to school, but I'm doing a anime theme. Good luck. :)

You could make a duct tape dress form and use the scraps for stuffing. A rag doll, a crazy scarf, or even a hula skirt. Just let your creative side take over and I'm sure you will end up with something amazing. :)
