Calling UK based thrifty craft people!
Started about 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
Hi Guys,
I understand how some of you may feel that the subject can show crafters/savers in a bad light, however, these forums are free for all to write and as this thread has had positive interest from others I feel that it might not be necessary to delete.
It's down to individuals to assess if they are willing to contribute and share their ideas with this show. Everyone has different opinions, some may see this as a brilliant idea for others to 'jump on the band wagon' and re-use and start crafting, whereas others - not so. I hope you can all see the point I'm trying to get to, I'm trying to think of this situation from everyone's point-of-view.
:)

Newbie vs Vet swap

Hey Rawr.Rawr.x,
The original poster of the thread has actually deleted their account from this site and I think she made a post saying she was giving up the thread, and that if anyone wanted to take over they're more than welcome.
I'd say go ahead and do it!

We also have to look at it from a newbies point of view. With all this rating stuff would it put them off signing up to swapping do you reckon? Too much hassle? Want to fit in and not get a black dot next to their name?
Sorry for misunderstanding Selina, I get ya now ;p
And 100% agree with the girls - it's no fun if you have to make before you even know who your partner is or not make it personalised :| I made some great friends on this site through swapping as you need to keep in contact! Without that I'd feel there is no point :S Hence why a few have opted out of the swap-bot idea (option 2) because we probably aren't on there. Like Creativemind said also, as she is a member there, it's a lot more personal here :)
I do hope all this feedback is worth something. I don't want to just slate everything you've suggested lol, sorry!

Swaps on CO+K

I think Creativemind's system would be much better. As Nora said, it's nerve-racking enough when sending out some hand-made stuff just in case the person you are sending too doesn't think it's 'good enough', even if you have spent hours on it! If it matches the theme of the swap, was posted and received that is all that needs to be said surely? Plus communication, obviously.
I got flaked on on my first 3 swaps, all people who had previously swapped so yes a majority might be the newbie swappers but not always the case. If I had been flaked on in my 4th swap I would have given up altogether. Not sure why I even signed up to a fourth but I'm glad I did now because the swapping experience is good fun! :D
I'm not 100% clear on this picture/project thing though. You mean we 'publish' a project with our swap items then when it's received it gets published? That could work but I wouldn't want to see before hand, the surprise is most of the excitement of it all :)

What Laurel said. I totally agree.
However, I reckon it would be a lot more work for you guys to moderate it all and how would things be 'sorted' fairly is another thing to consider... How would your own system work? :)

Suggestion: Swap Feedback
Started over 2 years ago · Last post over 2 years ago ·
No, I didn't say that the moderators could do that... What I meant was Cat or Tom created the boards at the start with the swap section on it (only been here for a year so don't know if it's been here the whole time...). But if they moderated the swaps - not the moderators just Cat and Tom - then maybe they would put it in the profile, but they don't. If you think of all the people on this site and how many participate in swaps then not even half would use the section on the profile. But as I stated in my first post it COULD happen, just can't see it happening soon ;)

Bryony hasn't commented in here?!
But if you're talking to me then yeah I know they must have created the swap boards for the people that wanted one but what I was trying to get at is that it's not moderated by Cat or Tom (I don't think! Please see post above), so they can't go much further into putting a specific place on the profile for it surely?! Anyway like I said it could happen in the future just can't see it happening in the near future... :D

Never Worn Makeup
Started over 2 years ago · Last post over 1 year ago ·
And a good tip also so you're not put off it is start with the basics. If you start applying loads it will be quite dramatic to others (and yourself!) and will seem like too much time to invest in applying make-up. So a step at a time. I started wearing just eyeliner and mascara when my skin was good, then a couple years later started to use foundation, concealer and blusher (obviously in your case a couple years might not be good time frame but I was young and didn't want to wear foundation). Maybe a little powder on your nose, forehead and chin, mascara and blusher. Always put blush with foundation though because you WILL look washed out... although if you aren't too pale you should be alright.

Wavy Hair?
Started over 2 years ago · Last post over 2 years ago ·
It sounds a bit odd, but you could just wash your bangs in the sink/basin in the morning and blow dry..
One of my friends used to do this all the time because the rest of her hair took forever to dry if she washed it in the morning.
The braiding is the best solution I think :)

I don't think they'll do anything with the profiles seeing as it isn't really a 'swapping' site it's just a craft site. The swaps are set up by the people on these forums and aren't managed or anything by Cat or Tom (at least I don't think so) so I can't see it happening in the NEAR future but could happen :)

Or just tell your MIL that she can bring the gravy :p If she's so fussy tell her that can be her contribution to the day! Haha.
But as for the rest of it, yeah if you don't want to cook it all on the day freezing it all is the way forward! And lists! :D

I think I'm being followed..
Started over 2 years ago · Last post over 2 years ago ·
I think a gun is a bit extreme... Just keep your eyes peeled at ALL times.
Do let people know about this and if there is anything suspicious at all then phone someone just so you have someone 'with' you. If I'm walking in the dark or late at night I always talk to someone on the phone just in case anything were to happen. I always tell them where I am (update as I go) just in case someone were to bundle me in the back of the van, at least then they could tell the police where I was and at what time..
Don't panic yourself about it too much. We've not got the whole story so everyone is jumping to conclusions but if this is happening more than once and you're positive he was heading towards you and no-one else near you and it was definitely a gun (not a umbrella or something, not being patronising but your mind can play tricks on you) then do get in contact with the police immediately.
Take Care!

mad at everything

If you say just 'lately' that wouldn't mean a long period of time. I'd just put it down to the wrong time of the month or like Lolly.Bot said, it's just not your week... Being a teenager could be it, just hormones trying to sort themselves out, it's all part of growing up! Are you quite stressed from school work? Stress can cause you to get annoyed easily.
If it continues, you might then want to go see the doctor who could tell you what's up and where to go from there and what you can do to help it :)
Don't worry about it tooo much ;)

Jesi is right, you might be looking at a creation or version.. If you're looking at a version it's very easy to get to the original (not always a how-to) just by going to the top of the page and clicking on the link in the yellow banner next to the display picture of the project.
As for creations, you're just going to have to wing it. You could send the original poster a message or leave a comment asking if they could do a how-to for you, some people will do that! :)
Oh and welcome to the site :p

Sewing Machine Malfunction...please help!

That or you could try re-threading the thread and the bobbin, ensuring the needle is all the way in and make sure you try it out on a separate piece of fabric instead of your bag first :) Hope you find the problem soon!!

I've got three 'favourites' at the top now... Was the other one lists? I don't remember because I didn't use it so it's not a problem for me but just letting you know the favourites are taking over!!

Christmas Present Help?
Started over 2 years ago · Last post over 2 years ago ·
I like the Jodi Picoult books. Picture Perfect is suppose to be a really good one of hers, I haven't got round to reading it yet though.
She wrote My Sister's Keeper so if she was a fan of the film she might like the book? Or just get picture perfect if she doesn't want to read the book after seeing the film (book is better though :p)
Sorta help? Sorry I've had a long day, hope that makes sense :S
