well, the word nearly explains everything! you swap (selfmade) things with a partner. most times the items are themed and there are specific rules set up. if you want to take part here, you better start with the newbie vs vet swap. you get an experienced partner you can ask everything.

Can't see notifications

"internal server error" too, for over a week now...
it´s a bit complicated, when i move over "notifications" with the cursor, a drop down appears, i can click on the different announcements (when i go to see all, the error comes), the project that was favored appears, i go to all faves and click on the last person who is on the list to thank her...

Skirt Pattern Help!! "Mullet Skirt"
Started over 1 year ago · Last post about 1 year ago ·
depending on the skirt shape you want i would make a basic pattern for it, maybe a circe skirt or even a pencil skirt, and cut off the fabric at the front in a curve downwards to the back. or you can attach a flounce around the hem that is long at the back and turns smaller at the front?

I want to make myself a cape!!!

maybe just work with half of a circle? it´s not just a lot fabric if you want it in one piece, but also a ridiculous long hem!

I want to make myself a cape!!!
Started over 1 year ago · Last post over 1 year ago ·
i uploaded a cape some days ago, it´s made of wool fabric. generally wool fabrics are warm if they have volume (the thick fabrics), mine is a woven with woolen yarn and was felted after weaving. maybe loden cloth or a bouclé is something? but wool can be scratchy so i lined my cape. if you don´t want to line it, look after fabrics made of really fine wool like merino (although i have to say merino scratches too, at least i think so) if you don´t want wool because of the source or the price, there are polyester fabrics that look and feel like wool! you don´t like fleece because of it´s look or how it feels? if you just don´t like the look, there are fleece linings you can use for the inside and have a fancy fabric outside.
i constructed the pattern myself, but at the moment you can buy them online at burdastyle and the pattern magazines are full of them!
i´m not sure if you can create a pattern from a circle skirt pattern, but maybe it´s worth a try :)

Volunteering for a mission trip abroad
Started over 1 year ago · Last post over 1 year ago ·
she lived in a centre in the township where a school and some other institutions were. there was a security and the area was fenced in, but one night she was sitting on her bed and was reading when the door opened and a man she didn´t know looked in, saw her, shut the door and ran away. he was going to do a robbery. also, she had several experiences with toxic animals. the worst thing was that she lost her passport or someone stole it.
she was there with about 10 other people from germany, so she wasn´t alone. but whereas she took it seriously some people from the group were constantly molesting her and the girls who lived in the township, they even payed them for having sex. and once she was offered to get a tattoo that was poked in with the gum of tyres.
she had to look at how much water she used and they constantly had blackouts and not much variety of edibles, basically mush and beans every day (and dried worms) but it was all okay.
to balance my post a bit: she got the opportunity to visit not only parts of south africa but namibia and i think two more countries, did a bungee jump, had dreadocks (a thing that she always wanted to have), saw a lot of animals in their natural environment (she even ran a monkey over... it´s sad, but who can say this in europe?) and, as i said before, she was able to think a lot about her future. now she´s studying teaching post for elementary school, because she taught children when she was in africa.

Volunteering for a mission trip abroad
Started over 1 year ago · Last post over 1 year ago ·
i didn´t do it personally but know people who did that after graduation. i have to say they encouraged me to do something similar (maybe with my boyfriend) after my graduation from university.
a friend went to south africa and was in a township and had some really cruel and creepy experiences but said it was the best thing she could do before starting a new part of her life which means studying again. she also received a lot of inspiration for her own life, it´s sad but she left her longtime boyfriend when she returned because she were changed by the things she had seen and didn´t have the connection to him she had before. but all in all, she was really happy to have the opportunity to do it. although she said it was more worth for her personal development than the development of the people who lived there...

Started almost 2 years ago · Last post 9 months ago ·
i currently only have four little bats behind my right ear.
after a year of "abstinence", i´m into piercings again and now have 13, more to come because i have an appointment at a tattoo artist not until next july (he´s so busy, but it shows he is in great demand!) getting half of my back and half of my arm covered in Black and grey roses of all kinds; normal ones, abstract ones and so on. also, i wanna have a needle and thread at the side of my pointing finger when i passed my tailors exam.

Tools you never knew you couldn't live without until you got one!
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
oh, there are many! the first tool i ever bought were variable pliers for holes or riveting or punch in buttons/eyelets.
a thing i thought i would never use was a thimble! i had to buy one when i started my seamstress apprenticeship, started using it and it was amazing! when you have to stitch 10 buttonholes in a row you know what i mean...
not exactly a tool, but my serger made many things easier!
and, a really good dressmaker shear and a pince-nez!

Nose piercing
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post over 1 year ago ·
sorry, don´t agree, if the screw is wide enough it has enough space to swell and normally they are huge! i don´t know any people who have that big noses that they don´t have enough space. also, when you use cbrs for healing the tunnel will get curved and it´ll be a lot more stress to stick a straight screw through your freshly healed curved piercing than the other way round. this is what my piercer told me in short: never ever use rings for healing process... and for me it was always the best way.

What are you reading?
Started almost 6 years ago · Last post over 1 year ago ·
i finished "the Sweetness at the bottom of the Pie" by alan bradley which was an incredible sweet and thrilling book about a girl that loves chemistry and finds a corpse in the cucumber patch. i´ve read it in english to train the language and didn´t understand all expressions but i´m confident that i´ll read the sequel too.
now i want to finish "eating animals" by jonathan safran foer, the beginning was disgusting and informative at the same time!
aaand, my mother gave me one of these vampire tearjerkes, maybe i´ll read it too...

Is there a technique for this?
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
as pinkweeds said, you can just fold bias tape and topstitch both edges. you can make tape by yourself or even take a normal strip of fabric, fold in some seam allowance and fold over again and topstitch (a fake tube if you wanna say it).
and, i remember a how-to on here for turning tubes with a string, i think jet made it.

Who has an accent??
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
i don´t have an accent at all. the people in my area are known in germany for the cleanest standard german. you can only judge from a few words if someone lives a few more kilometres in the north or south... sometimes i like hearing accents, though i´m quite happy i don´t have a terrible one, germans can have horrible (and funny) accents...

adding video projects
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
hey, it´s possible to post video how-tos. so you can´t have a video in your display picture for projects but in the steps.
to your other question: i personally see video editing as some kind of art and i would be interested in seeing how it works! i think selfmade output wether it´s digital or touchable and in which you put an effort in creating it can be qualified as craft :)

Sewing machine set-up help
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
maybe there´s something wrong with the looper/claw. you can see it at the bobbin case. it´s a little claw that grab the needle thread when the needle goes up and created a little loop. the claw expand this loop and and twist it around the bobbin thread. it can happen that the claw does the wrong thing at the time or hold on to the needle thread too long.
or your tension is very very low at the needle thread and very strong at the bobbin thread. as you said you altered the needle thread tension in every way and can´t alter the bobbin thread tension i suggest to see a sewing machine technician (in both cases). make sure you get an estimation of costs before you agree in repairing it! sometimes the spare parts for old machines are more expensive with repairing costs than a whole new machine.

Harry Potter & the deathly Hallows Pt.2
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post over 1 year ago ·
just came home from cinema!! i have to say it was AWESOME, but not as furious than i expected i have to say (sadly). well, i expected the battle a bit more powerfull than it even was because everybody was so excited about this and said yeah, it´s a war movie... i liked very much that they didn´t loose the sense of humour and pointed out relationships, but they kept some things too superficially and short.
i´m soooo disappointed of the synchronization. i´ve seen many clips in english and compared to them the german speakers are just dead!! there was very low passion or fear or excitement to hear, i totally watch it in english as soon as it is out on dvd!!!!
edit: it was the first movie in a while that make me wanna cry at least five times....

What is the diffrence?
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
phew, i don´t know if that works because it´s not perfectly rounded but cragged then and the threads break (at least in my head it makes sense) i wouldn´t try this, or just on a scrap of the fabric! i would rather use a normal one in this case!

What is the diffrence?
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
a "normal" needle you can use for most woven fabrics. a ball pointed needle is for jersey and knitted fabrics. the point of the needle isn´t that sharp like the normal ones are, it is rounded. so, when the needle is sinking into the e.g. jersey, the point pushes the threads aside instead of just rushing through and possibly hurt the thread and causes a hole.
hope you understand the difference. i think it´s better to use every fabric with the matching needle.

Project ideas for PVC
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
maybe you can use the ability of pvc to be waterproof. a cape for you or a bag for a bike or simply a shoulder bag that you can wear on rainy days. I hope you don´t live in the desert...:D
i´ve seen toilet bags or bags for swimming stuff lined with pvc so the wet don´t soak in the shell fabric, maybe this is something.
uhm, yes, that´s what came to my mind immediately!

A Living Pendant?Whaat?

i think you have to find those capsules that have an attachable bottom with these tiny holes in it! you can see in the picture that the capsule is not one part but two!
on ornamentea.com there´s a similar how-to, but with a normal bottle, i think it will work with plants that doesn´t need much water and are okay with the climate conditions in a bottle...

sewing leather
Started almost 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
like louise said, when you sew by hand it is common to punch in holes before you pull a thread through. the seam is a special one, it looks a bit like a blanket stitch i think (saw it once on tv when they showed how footballs were made). the needle is a special leather one, it´s curved and thick.
for machine sewing you need a special needle too that cut the leather insead of just going through it and most of leather sewing machines have a top feed as well to ensure the transport (the guy from ehow talks about baby powder, maybe it works too)
