    London Calling

Started 4 months ago · Last post 4 months ago ·
Hayley, depends on parts of Essex and Kent. Kent in particular can be quite expensive. Parts of Hertfordshire aren't bad. Considering I've lived on the outskirts of London all my life I can safely say that it will be expensive living in London in general but obviously like most cities, the closer to the centre of the city you live the more expensive it will be.

If you live on the outskirts of the city or just outside the boarders in places like Hertfordshire/Essex (to the North of London), Surrey/Kent (to the South of London) and parts of Berkshire/Buckinghamshire (to the West of London).

Thoroughly do your research though as I've found that Kent and Buckinghamshire and Surrey can be quite expensive.

Hayley in my area (Enfield) it's not known as a nicer area of London and would cost at least £800/ £1,000 pcm for the kind of property you're describing.

Well I'm assuming by SMALL fuzzies you mean like rats/mice/hamsters.

Guinea Pigs aren't so small, neither are chinchillas. However if these are also ruled out then all you really have are fish or a tortoise or turtle of some sort...

    Shrink Plastic

Started over 2 years ago · Last post about 1 year ago ·
You can buy shrink plastic in England on Amazon and a retailer called "The Range" that's where I've got mine from, although I believe it is the normal kind.

I would love to try out the printer friendly shrink plastic though :-)

CO+K APP! what do you think??

Started almost 2 years ago · Last post 8 months ago ·
I think they make a little bit of money from advertisements, but I imagine a lot of it goes on the running costs of the site. They obv wouldn't be able to afford to do a free one, especially if it costs £80 to become a developer with apple (not sure how anyone could do a free app if it costs this much?!). But it's worth mentioning to cat or tom, see what they think.

If you click on the "Board" tab above and scroll down you will see the swap board. Oops sorry, it's called "Swap Shop" but it's the swap board:

    Swap Worries

Started almost 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
Lo I was the same when I started swapping, I mainly made things from felt and fabric painted bags or t-shirts and stuff, but now I'm only just learning to make jewellery and learning to use polymer clay and stuff.

Everyone always said they like my stuff. It depends on what the person you're swapping with is like. I haven't been on here a while so I'm not sure what everyone is like on here now, but the group of mates I made with people originally from here were all brilliant and kind, so you might find like-minded people.

If all else fails you could arrange private swaps with people commenting on this thread that feel the same as you, so that you swap with people you may feel on the same kind of crafting levels as yourself??

    Just a thought :)

P.S: I'm obviously no expert, I'm quite overweight myself, but it's these kinds of things that I have been told. I just haven't implemented them myself... I really ought to because I need to lose some weight too.

If you say you have a "pooched out belly" instead of just going on a diet and doing normal type exercise... the diet, yeah you could do, just try making some little changes that seem insignificant like the way you cook your food (less frying, fats and oils and stuff) etc. and also portion sizes... maybe get some smaller plates?? These kind of things are a good starting place, then you can think about the kinds of foods you eat etc etc etc.

Also if you feel like your stomach is the big problem, why not do exercise's aimed at toning the tummy?

    the 3 month swap

Started almost 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
I can also personally voucher for Tanis, we did a three way swap between myself, Tanis and Magic Sprinkles. She is an awesome swap partner, before anyone critiscises!! She's done many swaps before and as Sugarlishes said, she's done the Newbie vs Vet swap before.

Everyone has to start somewhere with HOSTING a swap. I've only ever hosted one swap before that wasn't as popular as I thought it would be, but no-one should be judged for being a newbie host... so please get your facts right before judge someone.

This isn't meant to be rude, I'm just personally vouching for Tanis as an amazing swapper and an amazing human being!!

    Nintendo DS?

Started about 2 years ago · Last post almost 2 years ago ·
I have a Nintendo DS Lite... I bought a Puzzler World game, I like doing puzzles and I take it with me to keep me occupied on the train going to and from my work placement and it's addictive to me. The other games aren't sooooo bad, but I only have Nintendogs, Professor Layton (the first one) and animal crossing so.... yeah there may be some even more awesome games for the DS!!

What is wrong with today's youth!?

Started about 2 years ago · Last post about 2 years ago ·
I think the reason people have taken it to heart (ISH) is because of the title of this thread. I get where you're at now, just ranting about this girl, but the title of the thread is fairly misleading and may suggest you are about to moan about all teenagers.

TBH teens are very different, most are difficult to deal with. It's not necessarily about how they are raised. My mum raised me and my older sister very well, but my sister went off the rails, met a guy who (used to) hit her, moved out at 16 and now has 4 kids with this bloke... amongst other things.

I think it's kinda a combination of a lot of things, yes parenting styles can have an effect, but it also has to do with their own personality as well as the kind of society they were brought up in. Kids (like my sister) can so easily end up mixing with the wrong sort of kids.

There's not much I can suggest, my sister is back to the lovely person she was before, I think a lot of it is that they will grow out of it but for know you'll just have to find ways of managing or at least minimising the effects of her behaviour. I don't have any tips for you there but others might have?!

Started about 2 years ago · Last post about 2 years ago ·
Before all teenagers are tarred with the same brush I just want to point out that when I was a teenager I wasn't perfect, but I was pretty good... I was always respectful of my parents, particularly my mum.

I'll admit I do tend to see more teenagers that don't seem respectful but TBH I think a fair contribution is from the media too, where so many teens are stabbing or shooting one another.

The problem with this is that all the good teens get buried in the bad attitude and behaviours of others. Since people tend to think the worst of teenagers I think that the good teenagers kind of get discriminated.

How to make bright hair dye stay in longer?

Started over 2 years ago · Last post 3 months ago ·
Cold water didn't work for me when I had purple hair!! I haven't ever tried the other methods but my hair colour has pretty much grown out now. Some hair seems to be more resilient to hold colour than others, I think my hair HATES bright coloured hair dye... mine always fades soooo quickly!!!!

    When recycling isn't recycling...

Started about 2 years ago · Last post about 2 years ago ·
I totally agree. I upcycle my jeans because they are all worn, so much so there are holes everywhere, unwearable!! If I was to buy a new pair of jeans and cut them up, it's not exactly the same thing. I don't know.

Unless the items are something that someone else was willing to through out anyway. My friend gave me a sack of her old clothing, I'm going to alter them and what not, I would say that was recycling/up-cycling??

    Am I making sense?

Gosh honey that's awful to be stuck in that catch 22.

Daytime TV is dire... I've had 8 months of it thus far and it's driving me nuts!! Hopefully a friend of my mums is going to try and get me 6 months work experience at the place she works in Stratford. If she's unable to do so then I will seriously be considering going back to college or something.

Hmmm I wonder why they refused you that form of treatment?? So are you still being given the option of physio?? Hopefully they will offer you another method of pain control, surely they can't leave you in the pain you're in...

Oh gosh honey, I'm sorry to hear that things are getting worse. I think part of the depression is brought on by those type of ignorant people. It's understandable to be more frustrated at ignorant nurses and doctors as they are meant to be very knowledgeable people!! I can't believe you are having to emotionally fight with these people when your condition is draining you mentally and physically... it's an outrage.

But it's nice to hear that you've still got that fighting spirit in you.

Essex Debs is right, it would be a lot easier for you to print this off as if this is a diary of your condition!! Not only that but all people's suggestions are to hand so if you wanted to try something new that someone has suggested you have it right there. If that makes sense??

I hope there is something that can be done for you *fingers crossed*

Hiya, I just thought I'd let you know that I'm ready to send out. I may be able to get to the post office tomorrow, no guarantee's though. I just wanted to apologise for sending out so late, I've never been like this before, but lately I've just had so much on. I've been keeping in contact with Trish about it, so I think it's all good. I think she's in the same situation too to be honest. I shall let you know when I have sent out the package.

I can only offer my most sincere apology.
