Is homosexuality a choice?
Started August 24, 2009 19:34

also, just an interesting fact to note, many animals have homosexual mating tendencies, and even relationships. Penguins mate for life, and there are several cases of gay penguins. Bonabo (sp?) monkeys are rampantly bi-sexual, as are dolphins. I think most of us have probably seen dogs of the same gender humping each other.

sorry for the vulgarity. my point is that there is obviously something biological going on, seeing as how animals aren't always big on making choices about something as intangible as sexual orientation.

(i just saw this and thought i'd contribute my two-sense :) Bye!)

yeah, power maybe...i like zachary quinto as sylar, but not as spock, lol.

it actually just might be subtle sensuality and confidence. Girls often like the bad boy, confident in his "badassity", whereas the good guy has obvious (not hidden) esteem issues and is stumbling all over himself...

...?

Oh well.

Young Robert Plant...dressed bad, but cute and that boy could sing the pants off ya!

HELP! i'm learning to play violin!
Started July 10, 2009 18:29

I had an old violin lying around and my mother-in-law was in town and she plays. She showed me the basics (some correct fingering, plucking, holding it correctly and drawing the bow) and then left town. I can do all these things well, especially for a beginner, HOWEVER: Every time i pull the bow and my fingers are holding down any strings it sounds like I'm killing something.
I can bow the open notes just fine, but as soon as i touch a string with my finger it sounds like I'm summoning the gates of Hell.

Is this just a practice issue or is there some technique that can make my life easier?

ALSO: Is "bowing" the correct verb? When i say "drawing the bow" am I adhering to musical grammar and/or nomenclature? WHAT IS THE VERB!?

Hm. Michelle is the professional and I'm not trying to be contrary, but i would think if she went for a video purely for exercise purposes, it might be better. If she goes with something devoid of style, perhaps there will be more of the exercise element stressed than the stylistic and performance stuffs?
I dunno. That's what I would do.

(Bellydance hurrah! I do tribal style. :) )

I don't know anything about tae-bo, but pilates strengthens and works out your muscles thus burning fat. I always sweat.

As for bellydancing, it depends on what you're looking for. The zils (finger cymbals) are pretty much only if you intend to perform (which it doesn't sound like you're looking for). Fantasy and cabaret and gothic and all that are just styles, which mean more focus on performance than the work-out. i bet if you just try to stick with something basic, it will be fine.

Drills and isolations sound about right. I'm no expert, but i would go with something like that.

Hope i helped! :)

I, as always, suggest bellydance.

To some, it sounds crazy, but it's true.

I don't even know how to explain it, lol, it's just amazing. You will discover tiny little muscles you didn't even know you had, and it's great for your posture and self-esteem. Bellydance and pilates together will really do it.

Also, laughter. Excellent exercise. Very important. :)

I hear Rachel Brice's DVDs are good.

Good luck!
