Hm, I hear you. I would suggest trying out a free site at first, like shophandmade.com. (It's what I currently use.) I say this because many of the ladies here have lots of success selling locally, but don't sell much--or anything--online. I, so far, am one of them. I wouldn't suggest going to Etsy first, because I believe they have a listing fee, and you don't want to lose that in case you have the same problem.
Of course, that's just what I have to say, and I only began to sell recently, so if I were you, I'd go with what the more experienced craft sales ladies have to say. :)

How to start sewing for money

I use www.shophandmade.com. It is 100% free, unless you choose to donate something to them or an environmental cause.

How can I make some money?

Also, if you have a specific question about China, my brother lives there, and for a while he lived in Shanghai. I don't remember if he ever lived in Beijing or not. Anyway, hit me up if you have specific questions. He's not good at giving general advice, but can answer questions pretty effectively. :)

Start saving your allowance, if you get any. Are you too young still to get an after-school job? You can also try selling some crafts.
Are you going for a vacation or for school? Depending on why you are going (if it is educational or something similar), family members and friends might be willing to donate to your cause. For example, if this is an exchange program, let them know why you want to go, how it will benefit you, and how it will benefit the world, if you want. Then say that you understand that everyone is having financial crises at the moment, but even 5-10 pounds will be an enormous help. I've found that many times, family and friends want to help, but they presume that only large sums of money will do. This is not the case--it's amazing how quickly 5s, 10s, and 20s add up. :)
Hope I helped! :)

Shop name
Started over 2 years ago · Last post over 2 years ago ·
The attitude I took when naming MY shop/brand is that if someone else has the same/a similar name, but they don't seem to have much of a presence in your area, online, or in artisan circles, the name is fair game--especially if you think you will do the name justice better than the other person.
Of course, I also have very few friends, so.... :-P

What to name my shop??

Haha, good ideas. I am soooo indecisive--it's the main reason I posted this to begin with. :-P
I would go with something along the lines of what you suggested last, except that Israelis have a tendency to do that, badly, and so everytime I see someone do it, successfully or not, it churns my stomach. :-s

Thanks for the ideas, everyone! I'm getting inspired... just not QUITE there yet! Hopefully I will come up with something soon. Feel free to continue helping me out, lol! ;)
At this point, though... what if I just called it "Rachie's Shop"? :-P

What to name my shop??

So, I've finally made a decision and am going to open a shop on shophandmade.com. Trust me, it wasn't easy, deciding which site to use. :-P Anyway, the point is that I have no idea what to name my "shop"!! I don't want to just use my name, but I know I'll get sick of pretty much anything I choose now, and I don't think I can change it.
I am not going to limit my shop to only one thing. Example: I will be selling fimo, knitted, and sewn items, among whatever else I feel like sewing.
Does anyone have any ideas?? I need help! Thanks in advance. ;)
