Repurpose Wardrobe?

I’m moving house in a couple weeks and we have this gigantic oak wardrobe- I want to keep it as it’s a family heirloom- but it wont fit up our new and very narrow/steep stairs.

So the only option is to keep it in the living or dining room- I think I will try to upcycle or paint it, but I need some ideas on what else it could be used for- any ideas on how I can:

1- Make it look pretty- Nuetral colors, browns and greens.
2- Repurpose it for extra storage ?
3- Do something unusual/different with it?

Thanks!

Depending on the structure it can be used as a TV stand or entertainment system housing.

I wanted to put it in the dining room, and make it decorative but useful..

It kinda depends on the structure of the wardrobe but you should be able to fit shelves into it.
There's a blog called 'Better After' which is all about rescuing and repurposing furniture - might give you some ideas!

I'd add shelves to it and change out the doors to glass doors so you can use it as a hutch. Or remove the doors altogether, add shelves and use it form a book shelf.

it could be remade in to a custom craft work space. it could be turned into a desk / office for your home or for a ten or college kid.

you could antique it more.... and add cute antique kitchen ware to make a nice display for your dining area, I love using my antique kitchen ware when i cook for quests to "show off" the old school still lives on and still is useful.
