Any legend ideas for my book of legends.

I'm making my own Legendarum/book of legends.
I want to make it a mix of made up and based off other legends.
Right now I have:
The Legend of Gold and Silver Soul,
Morgona the storm Harpie,
Madara; The new face of Dracula

I am working on:
The Danpeans

Anyone got any ideas

Oh, I absolutely love this idea of yours! good luck with it!

I'm not sure what sort of legends you're looking for, but I've always been a fan of the legend of Sleepy Hollow/The Headless Horseman, there's also his Celtic almost-twin, a harbinger of death spirit called The Dullahan. there's also Bloody Mary, or perhaps you're up for stories about unknown creatures, of which I can suggest The Jersey Devil or the lesser known Snallygaster.

Those are just some ideas. Let me know what you think, I can give more!
Also, I'm intrigued to see your end result! this kind of stuff is right up my alley. =P
Good luck!

Thx, It's actually inspired by Winx club, The current season revolves around a Legendarum. And I'd have to look some of those stories up.

Scottish legends and fairy tales are really sweet, but quite creepy. My favourite was always the Kelpie stories Happy

I think it could be really neat to include local legends! I mean, there are tons of known, documented legends that everyone can look up online and read though, but if you put out something asking people for legends from their neck of the woods, you could build a map or something with it. Throw in a little geography, history, etc. Idk, just spitballin here. All the best and most interesting stories/legends are the ones that haven't been discovered/told yet!

GREAT IDEA!! Here are a few suggestions.
- The legend of the Mothman
- The Mongolian death worm
- The HUMANS CAN LICK TOO legend/story
- Sewer Gators
- The Vanishing Hitch-hiker
- Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the light
- The Hook
- The clown statue
- The fatal hairdo
Hope this helps <3

I love the idea of putting in local legends, by the way!

Also, I know he's an internet legend, but I was always a fan of Slender Man... =P My story for him is a little different than the norm though, but he's a character one can have fun with.

(Apologies in advance for being long-winded. I get a little overexcited whenever I get an opportunity to talk about myths and legends!)

A fairly common one is the Lady in White, usually a woman who disappeared or died very young of a broken heart after losing someone close, often a spouse or a child. She's usually seen walking in the road near where she is supposed to have died/vanished, and she disappears if you stop your car to get out and look for her. (Or, in some legends, she will attack you if you stop to investigate or make eye contact, forcing your car off the road or bridge.) There's stories like that all over the US, and I know of at least one not far from where I live. The one near me is supposedly a young woman whose fiancee died in a war, and in her grief she jumped off a bridge and died.

The Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark books are actually a great starting point if you're looking for ideas to create your own legends. Most of them are based on real urban legends from all over the world.

Asian legends and spirit games are also a great starting point. A lot of them are like the Grimm tales where there's a clear moral objective.

There's one I read about that I can't recall the name of that's really awesome, it's about a game you play with chairs and a mirror. (I want to say it's called Three Kings, but I'm not positive on that.) You set up two chairs facing each other with a mirror off to each side (so that the empty chair is reflected once in both mirrors). At exactly 3am, you go into the room, sit in your chair, and light a single candle. You ask three questions to the empty chair, one about your past, one about your present, and one about your future. You're supposed to hear two answers to each question you ask, one from the reflection on one side of the empty chair and one from the reflection on the other. You don't actually look at either of the mirrors though, because supposedly one of the reflections will contain a trickster spirit that will give you an answer to the third question that will lead to your death. You have to decide based on the answers to the first two questions which reflection holds the "king" and which holds the trickster, but if you look at either of the mirrors that spirit can possess your body and you will be stuck in its place until the next person plays the game. It's a little far-fetched, but I thought it was kind of an interesting idea.

Another one I love is the spirit doll hide-and-seek game. You have to make a doll and stuff it with rice and either fingernail clippings or hair or some other part of you, then sew it shut with strands of your hair. Then you give the doll a name (NOT your own name, or supposedly you just fall over dead before the game even starts) and say something like "I invite (whatever you named the doll) to play. It's (doll's name)'s turn to hide." Then you hide the doll, count off to 100 or whatever, and "find" the doll. After you find it you say "Now it's (doll's name)'s turn to find me." Then you have to hide and the doll will move around your house trying to find you. Supposedly, if it finds you, because you've invited the spirit in, the rules of the game say that the spirit inside the doll can now take possession of your body and trap you in the doll body. It can also take possession of the body of anyone else in the house, whether they knew you were playing the game or not, so you're only supposed to play it in your house alone. The story I read also said that if you make it to 3am without being found the game ends, but you have to burn the doll and scatter the ashes or it'll start back up the next night.

I also like the scottish and irish legends, like the kelpies. Or if you want more romantic, Tristan and Isolde.

I also know that Anthony Horowitz has written some books collecting legends from all over the world, maybe reasearch them for inspiration...
