I don't understand the fake plugs...

The fake plugs and tapers only annoy me if they're being worn by someone who wants to call them real.

I have 9/16" plugs in my lobes, and if people ask me if they're fake or real, I pop one out and stick my thumb through the hole. I also have 10 other ear piercings and a nose ring. And guess what? For some of my cartilage piercings and my nostril piercing, I've tried them out with fake jewelry for a couple nights to see how I felt after a while. That doesn't make anyone who does that a fake by default.

Life is all about experimenting. Some experiments work, others don't... and some people just don't want to stretch their ears.

Wearing "fake" jewelry is nothing to look down on someone for unless they're the poser type that's looking for every last drop of attention they can get.

do you want to tell me you can study piercing and that soon to be doctors have something like a course for it?! it´s not even a job that requires real training nor is it a degree or something!!!
If you want to become a piercer you just have to declare yourself as one, go to a studio and ask for it or if you wanna own a studio buy a trade licence!! If you want to become a good piercer you study the anatomy of the human body very well! The apprentices of my piercer even have tests, just written by my piercer but better than nothing.
How many "accidents" do doctors do, they can also hit a nerve or something, you can read it nearly daily in newspapers, but piercers are more used to deal with certain nerves/veines in common piercing placements, i don´t say they´re flawless! I think doctors in "medical centres" have better and more important things to do than piercing someone. They don´t do it very often or if they do it more often i can imagine it´s because of financial reasons. also, they think they´re qualified for it because they have some degree and because they´re docotrs people think they´re trustworthy what makes it even more "dangerous" and for me in personal obnoxious to go there!

~~~~~~Everyone Needs To Be More Zen~~~~~~~
This board looked cool but now its bringing me down, from all the negativity and put downs Happy Please, lets just chill out and move on from that debate. Thanks <3
Besides that....
Bleh I agree with Monica! I hate when the fake plugs are used by "posers" who want you to believe they are the real deal. On the other hand, I have no problemo with people who cant/just dont want to have gauged ears and wear the fake ones on the weekend for fun.
I have my ears gauged to a 6. And I have never had any problems, in fact my piercings have way better and easier to maintain then I ever thought possible! I love having them stretched, but even at an 6 I can still take them out and wear normal earrings just fine as long as they have a stopper/back on them. I've even gone a few years with out wearing plugs just because I didnt want that style at the time, and re stretched them back to a 6 in about 2 weeks. I think because go back down a few sizes, but not a big deal really.
Lately I've been trying to find ornate bone and wood plugs online, and I am getting sooooooooooo frustrated that all the really cool looking ones are fake, thats when I start to get mad at it, lol, and hate the fake ones.
If you have any good sites/store for plugs let me know Happy
People adapt and change their appearance for a few different reasons, mainly conformity (whatever genre) or identification or just plain style preference. So many things that used to be seen as "alternative" back in the 80's/90's/00's or whenever just are not any more because our entire culture has changed. Everything has opened up, become more accessible. The world is smaller. We don't just have one music channel telling us which ten songs we should buy this week any more. We have the internet and anybody can access so many things for free. People are more open minded and less restricted in their preferences as a result and that is a good thing.
When I was at school I began to get facial and body piercings and changed my hair colour every week. I lived in a small town and got a bit of stick for it but things like that are not as "weird" as they were. If I had grown up in a large city I would have had to have used a lot more imagination if my goal was truly to be different. I guess I did get some kind of a kick out of standing out but ultimately I was a self obsessed teenager seeking attention. There is so much more to contemporary culture than simply choosing an allegiance with one style or type of music, dressing accordingly so that everyone can tell without having to speak to you and then judging people who don't immediately appear to like the same things.
I am only saying this because it seems that there will always be new people who believe that they are "real" punks or whatever and that other people are "fake". This seems to be a really narrow minded approach, reminding me of myself as a child. Ultimately we are lucky now, anybody can pretty much do what they like, style-wise and there is inspiration to be found in all eras, places and things.
It is and most definitely should remain "each to his own" and each one of them should accept that they too will change over time.
I completely agree with GryffindorGrl.
Late reply to this, yet I was interested in how many people actually are this heated about fake plugs. But I think that people who strongly agree that it comes off as fake and that it makes a person appear less badass or weak or so doesn't have a right to be pointing fingers or judging anyone on how they dress. I'm sure you wouldn't want to be judged on how you have nasty stretched ears holes, how could you ever live with yourself or whatever people are saying about those who actually have stretched ears. And I don't even think it should be considered badass or rebellious, or at least that's what I'm seeing a lot of people say online telling other to grow some balls or some shizz. Just cause you took the time to stretch your ears for your own reasons doesn't give you the right to judge and hate on people who wear fake plugs. People have options just like you do and they have their own reasons to do what they do and they can wear them as long as they don't lie about it being real. And I don't understand why someone would lie about something fake in the first place or try hard to show them off just to get attention. That would be about the ONLY thing you haters should be getting upset about.
I'm ordering two online for the first time. I didn't even know that they were fake plugs to begin with cause it was called a round faux earring and then I did some research on it. I just found them to be super adorable and I love the vintage ones. And even if I was interested in getting my ears stretched, where I'll end up working won't allow it. I read a lot of people saying on other websites on how they don't understand how fake plugs even exist or that they despise them. Wow, first world problems, gotta love em'. Well you mine as well be judging everything else that is considered fake like fake nails, fake piercings, fake tattoos, fake cigarettes, etc.
It's just a little extreme to be hating so hard on something so little.
WOW... i love the style and have friends with them but I'm going to school for middle school edu. and we still live in a world where teachers cant have tattoos or gauged ears so i personally don't have them for that reason alone. but i do agree there are a lot of people who where the faux ones for the fact that they are fakers and wanna-Be's but there are some people who just cant get the real ones for reasons like mine.
Cheater plugs are GREAT for taping your ears to larger sizes! I started with a pair of 16g cheaters, and managed to tape them up to a 10 w/o replacing my jewelry. All the while hiding the ugly tape behind a pretty design.
Its funny how judgmental everyone is on this thread considering the amount of judgement body modifiers have received over the years...
I use cheater plugs. Im not allowed to stretch my ears, but my parents were fine with me getting fake ones. I think its a persons choice weather to ear them, its just like any other fashion statement. but if someone asks if there real, they should tell the truth and be like "Nah, there fake." if someone wears them it dosnt mean there fake. they just like the look but either cant actually stretch their lobes, or they dont want the commitment. Girls who wear them probly like the streatched look but like wearing regular earings too.
Food for thought, the whole concept is kind fake. Stretched piercings are an African Tribal declaration... Unless you were born to an African tribe, you're just part of a fashion fad.
(No offense intended!)
All i have to say about the subject is that if your going to wear fake plugs, tappers, tunnels and such, don't say it's real and try to seem like a "Badass" to all your friends. Be mature and don't try to impress anyone with your "real" fake gauges/Stretched Ears. I'm at 7/16'(11mm) and i know how much of a pain it is to get to where i'm at currently.
