What happened to Miley Cyrus?

after having seen here music video for 'we cant stop' and then here performance on MTV music video awards, i keep thinking what happened?

remembering the days when she way Hannah Montana, how did she end up like this?
its all well and good being young and doing crazy things and whatever you want, causing abit of controversy, dressing extravegantly, etc etc but was this performance not just a little bit too extreme, especially for the event she was at? with young and impressionable people viewing it.

what do you think?

should it not have been toned down abit considering the demographic of the audience?

You might find this funny - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOgj2etJs3Y&feature=youtu.be - it was from a few years ago and was posted on reddit a few days ago in response to the same topic of conversation. It made me laugh Happy

Oh Miley Cyrus was heading in this direction since her TV show ended and she invited her much older boyfriend to live with her in her parents house. The fact that her parents allowed it rather than using that thing called discipline, didn't help her cause. But in reality, if you look at the history of Disney channel stars, the odds are not in their favor. Even the minor stars have a hard time once their Disney carrier ends.

I mean sure you have the big ones, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus- but then you also have the smaller stars who have done some pretty nasty/naughty things.

But I suspect part of this crazy act is, in her unstable mind, her way of showing that she's amazing despite her even-more-famous ex fiancé breaking up with her. But I also think it's safe to say she was never Hannah Montana- she was always this way, but her contract and young age probably kept her from letting her bad behavior out.

It's not just the girls either... Macauly Culkin anyone?
And just look at Justin Beibers recent behaviour

I think the amount of attention and lack of boundaries isn't healthy. I think the recent statement from Amanda Bynes said that she was suffering with PTSD caused by the pressure of her early success. Unfortunately they have been plenty before her and not all of them end well. I think it was the kid who was in the film 'The Client' died of an overdose a few years back. And Corey Haim said he was exposed to drugs from the age of 14, so did Drew Barrymore.
It's a pity but I think we will see more of this with the rise of shows like X Factor as you are seeing young people going from having normal lives with school/work etc being thrust into the limelight and scrutiny of the press. Also the pressure they must feel to be perfect must be phenomenal. I think the ones who come through it normally have a secure home that grounds them. Those that don't don't seem to fare as well. I think this was part of the issue for Michael Jackson. He also said he never felt he had a childhood.

The celebs' looks of disgust were quite funny, especially the Smith family

I agree with you, what happened to being a role model for 8, 9, 10 year old girls.

She might end up going through the same sort of thing as Britney Spears. The head shave and crazy behaviour.

It is a shame.

I actually happen to like the new Miley and her music. I like the tune and stuff but i kind of am against the lyrics of the song. I mean if we can do what we want we wouldn't want to act so ... Like a .. Like a ________ (fill in the blank). In her song Can't be Tamed she said 'I can't be changed' in the lyrics but then she changed : LOL !

Miley needs a new singing coach, choreographer, manager and needs to upgrade her "entourage" really should have higher standards and production values. Really sad because I wouldn't mind however explicit she wants to be with her sexuality with her dancing and lyrics, but promoting drug use?

Child stars try to shed their "good girl" image once they come of age... They usually just do a playboy shoot though.

Everyone thinks this was a huge mistake in her career but I think she knew what she was doing. The more attention the better - look at the rest of the dying stars that Pinkweeds listed. Most of them haven't even been in a movie or show in ages but they keep their names out there with their scandals. I just see it as sad and move on....

Dianna@ exactly!! I mean who cares about what she is doing, it is her life not ours and if she realizes it, it is HER fault not ours so no problem. BUT if she is smoking or taking drugs just because we can do whatever we want to it's just WRONG!

The audience argument isn't legit. Think about it, this award show was strictly aired and covered on MTV. Think about their target demographic. I love what Miley is trying to do. I love what she stands for as far as not giving a rats ass what anyone thinks or says about her. That is a good message. The performance could've been okay had it just seemed practiced. I wasn't upset that it was distasteful, I was just upset that it felt like she and Robin Thicke just winged it.

The music video for wrecking ball has been sensored in the uk. She is wearing underwear. But its still pretty much over the top innappropriate.
