    Any Music Recommendations?

Started about 1 year ago · Last post 8 months ago · Displaying Post 1 - 30 of 33 in total
I just realized that my iTunes library is practically empty (only 22 songs, to be exact). Any recommendations for new music?
Just so you know a little bit more about my style, I love:
ADELE (currently my favorite artist), Christina Perri, Sarah McLachlan, and Whitney Houston.
I tend to gravitate towards quieter music (no rock or heavy metal for me), especially soulful pop. If I had to use one song to give an example of my favorite music style, it would be "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri (you can hear it on Youtube), but I also love Katrina Parker's version (from "The Voice"). I desperately need to hear some new music, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to anybody who helps!

Bases on what you like I think you'd enjoy the following bands/ singers:

Eisley, Jewel, Frou Frou / Imogene Heap, Alanis Morissette, Sarah Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson,Yael Naim, Emmy Rossem, Fiest, the Cranberries, Postal Service / Deathcab for Cutie, Of Monsters and Men, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Mumford and Sons, Kings of Lion

All these bands/singers have a either little bit of light rock, soul, folk or piano :D I'll add more as I think of it

Thanks so much, Emmyann07! I'll check all of these out. Can't wait to hear more of your suggestions.

You'll definitely want to check out Billie Holliday... And also have a gander at Bjork's stuff if you haven't already (Hyperballad, Joga, Hunter, Crystalline etc)

Hmmm, never heard of any of those people. Guess I'll have to check them out.

Never ask a Indie kid to give you music recommendations, she (I) will recommend your ears off

First, She and Him. The lead singer is Zooey Deschenel (think I spelled that wrong) that is an awesome band

Ingrid Michaelson is a must. Love her

Eliza Doolittle has such a cute voice, like you know somehow she is a sweetie in real life

Ellie Goulding is starting to get popular, she is awesome.

Feist is awesome, listening to them right now

HE IS WE! A local band to me, love them!!!! LURVE!

Missy Higgins, I like her voice type, not light powerful but no dark (?) powerful

    And everyone loves Regina Spektor

I just recommended my favorite girl voices, sort of close to what you said, if you have guy artists you like, I will totally tell you more, and I am in my little point of going onto youtube and looking up new bands, so I will come back if I find something :)

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions, guys! I now a few songs that I'm going to buy from Eisley, Feist, Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Emmy Rossum, Ellie Goulding, He Is We, and Missy Higgins, as well as a few others. Thanks for all the help!
P.S. @LaurenZoe: I don't actually listen to that many guy artists. I actually realized that for the first time today when you mentioned it. I'm not sure why. Weird. I'm a soprano who can hit a High D, so this might have something to do with it, LOL.

Ah, soprano, explains why you love musicals

My sisters are all singers (where my love of musicals came from) but I never had their talent.... fortunately I could draw a little :) Glad you like the artists, I was pretty sheltered from mainstream/ current music when I was young but listening to the radio and suggestions from friends opened a whole new world of awesome music :D

Yup, that is definitely why I love musicals. I specialize in soprano songs, but I can also belt from Low D to C Natural. I'm trying to become more involved in theater, but who has all the time with so much crafting to be done? LOL.

If you haven't heard them yet, check out Lana Del Ray and Birdy. I think you'd like them. Both are solo slow pop artists.

I just listened to both of them. Love them, now! Thanks for the suggestions, Rawr.Rawr.x!

No problem =] I don't normally listen to this type of music but I work in a music shop so we have to listen to everything we receive that might become popular so we can describe it to customers who ask about it. I'll try to think of more like those..

You might also like The Naked & Famous and Florence & The Machine

    =]

YES THE NAKED AND FAMOUS!! Totally forget about that band. They are starting to get popular, but people know the song not the band. Like what happened to Neon Trees, people only listen to the one song and say they love the band. It shouldn't work like that. But yeah The Naked and Famous definitely!

Ooh, Florence and the Machine! I recently heard them perform on the Voice. Love them! And working in a music store sounds like a load of fun!

definitely check out Feist, Ellie Goulding, Fiona Apple, Silversun Pickups, Tegan and Sarah, Mumford and Sons, City and Colour

Fiona Apple sounds amazing! Definitely putting her on my list.

I know, I wanna use Pandora so badly. But no matter how many times I try, there is a registration error and it won't let me use it! :(

    hmmm try grooveshark.com

they're not as cool as pandora but it's the same kind of thing :)
  25. Posted about 1 year ago
    Thanks, I'll try that.

I definitely recommend Ben Folds. Some of his lyrics can be a bit over the edge, but his earlier stuff is fabulous. Check out 'Whatever ever Amen' or his recent CD that he did with Nick Hornsby called 'Lonley Avenue'.

What part the States are you in? There is a Philly based musician named Christy Jefferson. Her music is mainly piano/guitar based which mellow yet fun.

Christy Jefferson is great! I also just started listening to Lady Antebellum.

@Emmyann07: I finally got Pandora to work on my computer! I'm not sure what was wrong with it (maybe it was a problem when I was registering). Anyway, now I've found so many new perfect songs!
