I want to start watching Dr Who--Where do I begin?

So before I started becoming active on craft blogs / databases, I'd never heard of Dr Who before. Now I know about the history of the story, and I'm totally interested. I'm just wondering where and how I should begin. Anybody have any suggestions about the best place to start watching? Also, I'm broke and can't afford to buy seasons of the show (who can?)...does anyone know good online resources for streaming?

In the UK our libraries hire our DVD's at a really cheap rate.

But yeah start with the revival series with Christopher Eccelstone, but I still miss David Tennant Happy

The continuation of the latest series starts back on tomorrow!

The things I could tell you about The Doctor...

Well, I had seen about 10 odd episodes since it relaunched in 2005. Then I moved in with my gf, and she'd never heard of it, so we started from the beginning.

If you want one good introduction, there's a 2-part episode you can watch. It's Season 3, Eps8+9, called 'Human Nature' and 'The Family of Blood' respectively. It's great as an introduction because at its beginning The Doctor volunteers to become human, and forget everything he is, so we get to learn all about the premise of the show as he does.

After that, just start with the 2005 Season 1 first episode, 'Rose' and go on from there. Here's the torrent file with all the episodes so far, to get you started: http://www.kat.ph/doctor-who-2005-2010-complete-t4705205.html

You will need a peer2peer downloading program if you don't have one. I use 'Vuze', which is easily available direct at: www.vuze.com

When you have opened the torrent file, just uncheck everything but the first series to start with. After about 2 days when you're done downloading what you selected, move the folder away from where you downloaded to, so you can download another series of it to the same place from the same torrent later, and it won't get confused with folder names.

If you'd like someone to try and explain why Doctor Who is such a wonderful show, I could certainly try, but I'd rather you found out for yourself :o)

when you say *the beginning* do you mean the original 60's series up to the eighties? Very few but the die hards can stomach Sylvester McCoy!
