troubleshooting 1956 brother pacesetter sewing machine

So i recently found this adorable little sewing machine while cleaning out my grandma's house, and my mother let me keep it. the bobbin turns, the needle works, but when i try to thread it and then sew, it doesnt work for more than a few stitches before jamming. i also dont know if the stitch wheel even works. does anyone have any experience on this type of machine?

I'm not a pro but it seems to me that you need to adjust the bobbin tension. On my machine (an old White) on the bobbin case there is a little screw near where the thread exits, this screw can be loosened or tightened ever so slightly to allow your thread the come out more smoothly. Originally I thought mine was fine because when I pulled the thread it would come out easily but when i held it by the thread my bobbin wouldn't drop to the table, however I have learned that if you hold the thread your bobbin should gradually drop kinda like a yo-yo (to me it seemed rather quick) that's all it needed to stop it from getting all jumbled in the matter of seconds! Hopefully this helps. Good luck!
...if you happen to know anything about how to adjust the bobbin hook timing please let me know, I can't figure that out!!! :\
