    Why Do You Enjoy Sewing?

    Hello Crafters :)
I'm working on a speech about why sewing is great and why more people should do it. I'd like to have some inspiration from the real deal, so why do YOU enjoy sewing? What makes it so enjoyable for you? :D Much help would be greatly appreciated :D

My fave thing to sew is things for babies. Toys, like fabric balls taggie blankets. Blankets, diaper bags. You name it. Really anything as a gift. I think homemade gifts mean the most. And you feel good about yourself after you sew because YOU made something.

    I hope that helps?

Why do I enjoy sewing? Because I find it relaxing (when my machine isn't being an ass lol) and I love to 'create'. I was bought up around crafters and learnt to sew on a machine at the age of 6 so it's just always been a part of who I am. I've had the occasional long break from sewing, especially during my late teens and early 20's (alcohol and sewing don't mix lol) but I always find myself coming back to it.

What makes it enjoyable for me? hmmmmmmm, I think its the satisfaction I get seeing a finished project. And the fact that there is an abundance of gorgeous fabrics out there just makes it even more enjoyable. To be honest, I don't think I'd enjoy sewing something out of ugly fabric as I do sewing with beautiful fabric. It's also my 'me' time. I am a mother of two boys aged 15 and 7 and when I'm on the machine I can just zone out (the whirring of the machine drowns out the bickering lol)

Haha! **drowns out the bickering!! Awesome. I wish it did for me! I have a 6m old 2 year old , a 6 year old and a 25 year old (the hubby). I have to get the oldest "kid" to watch the other 3 and then put on my mp3 player while I sew to drown out the noise. LOL

I enjoy sewing because its soothing, it really calms me down and relaxes me and I love to see what I have made in the end - I would recommend having a good light source for big pieces or your eyes won't thank you!!

i, personally, prefer hand-sewing more than with a machine, and to the extent that i have only used a machine twice in my life! i, personally, am soothed by the repetitive motions of the sewing itself. I also like seeing it slowly come together, piece by piece.

i enjoy embroidery for the same reasons, actually, and in fact, i enjoy hand-embroidering things so much that i've actually stopped to ponder why people would ever use an embroidery machine!! (no offense to anyone, lol!) right now, im working on my first piece of bead embroidery, actually. :)

i enjoy sewing because it allows me to be creative and express my taste in clothing which is rather unsual, and it makes me feel good, i love cross stich i find its a good way to get rid of anger by cross stiching "bad" words

I love to hand sew everything. Most of the time I sew new bags (not that I need any new ones,I dont know where to put them any more...) Oh and I love to revamp my clothes,to sew small pockets or animals on them,to embroider something new on a boring shirt or jeans.
I love it because when Im done I get a new thing that i can wear and enjoy, and it also calms me down when I have troubles.I mostly sew at night so I can think through the day and solve the problems that come with the tomorrow...

I usually sew by hand and I find it calming. For years I used to get a bit over excited and rush things but since I've really got into reading I've managed to calm my enthusiasm and enjoy the fact that it takes a while to do. Also when I rush it, it only comes unpicked later on and never looks as good. I also love the satisfaction that comes with using something you've made from scratch. I recently posted a pick of the bag I made for myself for work and I love using it. Also you can tweak it later on if you like.

I enjoy sewing as it gives me a sense of freedom, I know that probably sounds strange but I can make my own clothes I can choose styles that I like and put stuff together that is totally unique that no-one in the world has got. Also as I'm a plus size gal, I may see something I like in the shop that is not in my size, I can either buy it and alter the size or something that I do a lot is I like most of the style but there are one or two things I dislike so I duplicate most of the style and add new bits to it.

So I like it for the freedom, creativity and uniqueness!! I hope that helps you out.

I'm sewing machine illiterate, but enjoy hand sewing and embroidery as it calms my anxiety. Sometimes I get so anxious that my hands will shake uncontrollable, but once I start sewing or embroidery I'm as steady as a surgeon.

I love sewing because I can make a flat piece of fabric into a something three dimensional!

A bit like this one: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/simple-boxy-pouch

(my version is still awaiting approval ;3 )

I love sewing because it relaxes me, well, it's relaxing when I'm hand-sewing. My machine, Bowie (yes, after David Bowie), likes to be a douche and not work, but lately he's fine after I renamed him. He was named Tamaki, from Ouran High School Host Club.
I don't suppose the Disney stickers helped the situation either.

I like to sew because I can create something personal. I've been sewing since I was 10 (I'm almost 15), and the first thing I made was a bag out of too-small denim shorts, all hand-stitched. My dad and step-mom bought be a little pink Barbie sewing machine around then, too, and I made little doll clothes, or little bags.

I love to hand-paint shirts, and when I wear them to school, all I ever get is "Where'd you get your shirt? I love it!", and when I say I made it, they don't believe me. I like to make jewelery too, mostly earrings.

I've made other things too, like a coat for an anime convention costume, Max from Where The Wild Things Are costume.. practically every costume I have, I made.

I like to put on the soundtrack to The Phantom Of the Opera when I sew. It relaxes me, I can softly sing along, and AC/DC won't distract me! haha.

Anything I can create and personalize, I'll do it. I'm my own person, I don't want your boring manufactured clothes.

My mum use to make my clothes for me when I was little and they were really good.
I started sewing when I was in high school and really enjoyed creating things (and of course showing them off)
For my 21st birthday my family brought me a sewing/ embrod machine and I just love it.
I love sewing because it reminds me of when I was a child and makes me relaxed (most of the time)
I also loving seeing the looks on peoples face when I create something they love.

Ohh..I see that you've already got what you needed, but I like this topic, so here goes:

I like to sew because there is something magical about how a flat piece of fabric can turn into an amazing, 3D piece of art. Every time I complete something, I look from the scraps of fabric laying around to the finished piece and thing..."now isn't that something?, Look how I've turned nothing into something!" It's not so much relaxing for me, as I'm usually in a fit of stops and starts and cussing at my machine, but it's more of an adventure. Like some people like to rock climb so they can be proud of their achievement when they reach the top...I like to sew so I can be proud of myself for something that I've done that not many people have the skill or the patience for anymore. Makes me feel like part of a special group of talented people. ;)

I like going out in something I've sewn and getting compliments about it, it means so much more to me when someone likes what I've made rather than something I bought - though any compliment is good imo!

Sewing keeps me calm and collected. It helps me think and knowing I'm wearing one of my own designs makes me feel so happy. It also saves money and makes your clothing style unique. Knowing Im wearing an orignial peice by me makes me smile! :)

I love taking a piece of fabric and turning it into something awesome and beautiful. That is satisfying and it is pretty relaxing, especially with some music on.
