New to Knitting

Hi all,

I want to take up knitting this summer before I get back to college for two reasons: One, it'll be good to give my hands something to do in class/chapel/whatever so that I can better concentrate, and Two, I go to college in New York, during snow season.

What would be the best way to get started? I'm not scared of getting my hands dirty and failing miserably at the beginning, as long as its a learning experience.

I'm pretty new to it too and have started with a scarf. I've used pretty big needles and interesting wool to keep me interested (although when the weather warmed up here I put it down - I'll pick it up again when it gets cold).

Well, when I learned, I used size 7 needles and a simple cotton or wool. And I made a coaster Happy It was a good way to learn how to knit, while making me feel like I accomplished something. Then I made a scarf, on bigger needles and a boucle yarn. It also helps to make something small, like a coaster, because you can practice your stitches. Then, when you make a scarf, the stitches look nicer :]

Good luck with the knitting!!

I'm in the process of knitting my first project which just happens to be a baby blanket for my unborn nephew.

I started by knitting lots of 10cm by 10 cm squares. I practiced a different stitch on each square then I was going to sew them together and make a bag, cushion... but I didn't make enough! Happy
