Poopy kitty tush...help D:

So I moved into my own place a few weeks ago and along with a new home, I decided to adopt a kitty from the shelter. It's a little longhaired Manx and vie never had a long haired cat before. A after she settled down and started coming out more and exploring, I noticed there were poop smudged here and there. I thought they were from my dog but then realized it was where my kitty has been sitting. I tried...um..."investigate" what the problem could be (before getting slapped by my cat for being anything less then a gentleman with her...) and its all sticking to her tush and not really the hair around it.
I know its a gross topic haha but I'm gonna have a heart attack if I keep finding poop stains everywhere! Someone already suggested that I take her back to the adopting center but that's not gonna happen :/ she uses her litter box just fine.

Have you changed the food you're feeding her?
When we first adopted our two they both had problems at first (and that was feeding the same food as the shelter!) Also remember if the cat goes out you have no idea what they're eating out there - I know the cat next door comes into ours for a snack now and again!

The food might be too rich, or she may be sick. My parents have a kitten with the same problem, but it's an outdoor cat.
I picked him up and did my best to clean his bum with wet towels and I did have to cut a few pieces out of his fur. He was a bit feral but wasn't as bad once I cleaned him up.

If you think it might be a food issue, change to a food for cats with sensitive stomachs, or if she's young (like less than 2 years old), feed her soft kitten food to see if that helps.

Gypsy is an indoor kitty. I'll try changing her food and see if that helps Happy I'm feeding her Science Diet (what the shelter gave me).

You could try a litter with more... grip to it Tongue

I would freak out if that happened with my kitty.... if the poo is too mushy she needs more fiber/ roughage. Try finding another cat food high in fiber or get a little kitty grass plant for her to munch on

If altering her diet doesn't work, check if the stools in the litter box look solid--like normal turds--or if they look more liquid. One of my adopted cats had that problem a couple weeks after I brought him home. It turns out he was infested with worms, but he didn't display any symptoms until a couple weeks after I adopted him. All it took was a few doses of a good dewormer, and he was as good as new.

Ohh Science Diet gave my kitty the runs as well. We switched to an organic food called Spots Stew and they haven't had any problems, also their coats have gotten very shiny and healthy and they have had less hairballs...so that's an option.
You could always "trim" the hair around the tush so maybe it won't get as messy. I think groomers will do something like that

Thanks y'all! Happy
Just a bit of an update: I changed her food 3 different times, and the one I have her on now seems to be working the best. There's no more poo streaks on my carpets and pretty much no more droppings left on the floor (there's one or two here and there but not nearly as many as there had been).
So it looks like it was her food that was the problem Happy
