DIY two color jeans HELP!!!

I am making my own Harley Quinn costume from both Arkham City and Arkham asylum. I need the red and black pants from Arkham City. I wanted to get a pair of light color blue jeans and dye them. If you're wearing them, it's red on the left side and black on the right side (nevermind the diamonds). I need to dye them, but how can I do this without having the colors run together in the middle? I don't want to cut them in half then sew them back together. Please help. Any suggestions are welcome. I thank your for your time.

Make a bucket of red dye, & a bucket of black. Put a tight rubber band around the middle "crotch" area where the colors would meet... This might help keep it from running together. Dip one leg into the black dye up to the rubber band, until desired color. Ring out the excess water. Make sure to keep the other leg from getting wet.
Then repeat for the red side.
Hang it on a clothesline or on newspaper outside to completely dry, making sure the legs dont touch eachother. Then take rubberband off & wash them.
Hope this helped. White jeans or leggings would help bring out the color better too.

I think you've be better following the tutorial on here for two tone leggings and make them up in black and red. Though jeans give more coverage/warmth, leggings are easier to work with.

Yeah I'm planning on getting a red and black shirt and making yoga pants out of those. I feel like that would be easier. Then again I'm not interested in dying things ever because it seems like I'd bite off more than I can chew!
