Jeans to bag for newbie?

I only recently got into making things and recycling, and have fallen in love with sewing. Does anyone know any good ways to make jeans into a purse or some sort of bag? I've seen some tutorials on the site but nothing that really catches my eye. I really like bags with flat bottoms so you can put a lot of stuff in them...

Eve,

I've just made one myself. I started cutting and pinning, then found a lovely old pillow case to be the lining. Cut the legs up and lined them with same pretty pillow case. I sat the bag flat and then where the bottom of the bag became a point (i.e. - side seam against bottom seam) I did a line of running stitch inside to made the sides square and the bottom flat (don't know how to describe it properly)

Above is one link that I liked for a denim bag. I've got some others somewhere, so will try and find them and let you know.

You could just cut a piece of denim from the jeans leg and sew it in the bottom to make a gusset. That's what I did with my jeans bag=)

I make 5 purses out of one pair of jeans. Here's how:
Lay the jeans flat, on a table, or the floor. First, cut off the legs, a bit below the back pockets. Then cut each leg in half, horizontally-or just at the knee. Each of those pieces can be stitched or glued to make a sack style bag, or sew a matching pair back to back, to make a two pocket purse.
Carefully cut out the 'watch' pocket, from the right hand front side, set aside. Now, flip the shorts that you have left, over and cut the back pockets off, leaving an inch or so seam allowance. DON'T cut the pockets OFF the base piece, because you can use the back piece of denim. Cut the whole thing out. The shorts should look like a terrible thong or something afterward, LOL. OK, so flip down the seam allowance bit at the top of each pocket, and make a hem. Place your two pocket pieces facing each other, wrong side out. Stitch the sides and bottom together, but not the top. Invert it, and attach a handle of ribbon, wire and beads, or whatever you want. You now have a 3 pocket purse. The last one can't be made to have a flat bottom, but it's perfect for a little girl, or you can use it to keep your cell phone or mp3 player handy.

When I make mine, I paint them with names, cool pictures, or just funky designs. I've also embroidered them, and added funky colorful buttons. My favorites are pockets with buttoning flaps, because they have closure, and extra decorating spaceHappy
